Re: Valhalla Rising
They were doing Aguirre Der Zorn Gottes Chesser!
There's also some interesting talk on the web about how OneEye was in North America as a kid and that's how he lost his eye. It was also said that he came from hell and the movie described the place as 'hell'. So OneEye knew the natives wouldn't kill the kid because they didn't kill him etc...

It was dog shit.
The first part while they were still in Europe was badass. As soon as they got on the boat it went to shit. Very slow and artsy, and then they took the entheogen trip and I stopped giving a fuck.

Great fucking movie.
The beginning did set up a situation that promised ridiculous violence that it never fulfilled but what it ended up as is as distinct a film as there is out there (not counting experimental film).
Watch it again chumps.

Re: Valhalla Rising
Herzog with some Bresson, right up my alley.
Interesting director (Refn) - I've only seen part of Bronson, but Drive is similarly a remix - genre heist flick, equal parts Michael Mann and Walter Hill or Peckinpah.

Some one needs to make a realistic R rated Viking movie! I like the TV show but it's still a TV show.
I want severed heads, ripped open guts, torture and full on unapologetic rape with glee.

No, that movie was ghetto as hell...typical 1970's drive-in movie. I don't remember much about seeing it, but I read later that it's considered one of the worst movies ever made. At one point they're rowing in their viking ship, and you can see an oil tanker in the background.DARTH wrote:Fucking Horns! Vikings did not have horns!
But if it's violent as Hell I can over look that shit.

Yeah, the Lee Majors flick was horrible. And not in a 'so bad it's good' kind of way either.
