What is the point of the AMRAP on the bench? Wouldn't a PL test (3RM, 1RM?) make more sense? Please be telling me who came up with this format, as I'm way too lazy to google it.

It's a good general test of upper body cock strongness and dieseltude, imo.

Isn't the combine the test that proved that The Tebow would never make it as an NFL quarterback?

We should do the NFL combine as the next IGX challenge.

Part of the Combine is the test within the test. If you were a so-so player and turned yourself into a workout warrior, it shows. On the other hand, if you were a savage to begin with and then showed up and destroyed the process, you'll get picked. (The Tony Mandrich/Pete Koch experiments being prime examples.)

Attitude is an abstract thought process. The NFL actually have the people on site qualified to measure it.

In doing USAW Level 1 courses for years, I've met many college Strength Coaches. Always their take on the bench test: it proves you aren't a pussy and cam work through pain. I didn't see Poe's first reps, but the last several he locked out completely.

A couple of Div 1 coaches I've asked both told me that it's really intended as a test of mental toughness: the guy who won't quit but will eke out every possible rep is the guy they are looking for. Actual rep count, while important, is secondary to heart.

1 to 3RM is too dangerous. Very very hard to get hurt on reps with 225.

I needed to Google him to find out who he was.

Seriously, how does a guy that big and that strong put up numbers like this: http://espn.go.com/college-football/pla ... ontari-poe

If you look at the opponent's (Southern Miss's) stats, you'll see they are a pass-happy team. Their QBs had 3500yd passing and 31 TD. Their top two rushers had about 1200yd and 6TD total. Dontari (my middle name, by coincidence) is a run-stopper, double-team taker, not a sack machine, and certainly won't be making many tackles against passing teams. Also, though his 40 is good, that doesn't mean he has the quick change-of-direction that someone like Suh or Warren Sapp in his prime.

Oh, and his team was awful, so he was likely the focus of the O-line's game plan.
