But rather than look at the whole thing and ask about soldier welfare, burnout, risk and responsibility of those in charge, you lay into the individual as if he caught a plane over there specifically to kill innocents. Sometimes traumatic situations just bring out the dark side of a person. I knew a guy in my grandparents' village who was a nice normal kid growing up, always smiling, joking, helping out old folks, etc. but when he got back from fighting in the Yugoslav wars he was totally different. Super violent, beat his newlywed wife, kidnapped their daughter, was busted a couple of times for smuggling prostitutes and other stuff for the mob. I don't even know if the guy's alive today.
