I think: no further good can come of me staying here. So I limp out the door. She's managed to hit that crazy bone part of the knee that makes the whole leg tingle. I look back and she's running out the door with a 2x4. I do not want to turn my back on her to get into my truck. So I turn to face her.

She swings at me but I stay out of range.

Meanwhile, the church across the way has just let out. People are standing watching and calling 911. The cops arrive presently --- 3 squad cars and 6 cops with nothing much to do on a Sunday morning. It was like an episode of "Cops" except we weren't drunk at night in a trailer park in Tucson. The cops finally cuffed her and took her away. There's a restraining order. Didn't stop her from calling me the other night and telling me what a dick I am.
