I'm not okay with it. I'm not okay with the drug companies turning people into zombies. I'm not okay with databases of people's private lives. And I'm not okay with the motherfucking pigs. Not at all.

Yeah, but it's even more fucked up than that because the reason the guy was stealing those drugs was because he was an addict himself almost certainly. And why are there so many people addicted to narcotic medications? Because government has given billion dollar pharmaceutical companies the green light to pump their shit into Americans. And why? Because those same companies pay off politicians to keep weed illegal, alternative medicine difficult to obtain, and the medical establishment in their pocket. This kind of story stands at the very intersection of the corruption of the American medical, judicial, penal, and political spheres.

Big pharm is a HUGE negative influence in Americann medicine. The narcotics issue may or may not be big pharma-many of those drugs are generic and cheap. OTOH, here in Pasco county, there's a booming business of "pain control clinics" which are basically narcotics dispensaries. Last swat raid I went on, I told the operators that I have a list of doctors who are the biggest drug dealers around and suggested kicking in their doors and flash banging them.
A huge portion of car crashes, falls and other trauma I see involves someone intoxicated on narcotics-often legally obtained.

to be fair, it's not all big pharma. There's a general mindset in the US, where a patient comes to a physician and wants a solution to their problem. The expected format of the solution is a pill. Many, MANY folks don't want to hear that improved diet, discontinuing smoking, slowing down on the booze, not drinking and driving, exercise, etc are solutions.

An on-duty Vernal police detective apparently used a state prescription-drug database to target a couple and steal hundreds of their Oxycontin and Percocet pills, raising questions about how sensitive medication information is handled, said state legislators and attorneys for the couple.
Detective Ben M. Murray, 36, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of burglary in August and resigned from the department, but he has yet to be charged with a crime.

Murray visited the home of Russell Smithey, 42, and Candy Holmes, 37, three times a month from January through July 2011, saying he was doing a "pill check," said attorney Tyler Ayres.

This is also true. I have done some work for several pharmaceutical companies and though it could be fun to think of them as evil henchmen twitching their mustaches, they do a lot of good.
