Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch is dead at the age of 47 after a two-year battle with cancer, according to media reports.
Known to fans of the seminal band as "MCA", the New York native was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland in July 2009, and had been too sick to appear with his bandmates during their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month.
"So this is crazy," he said in a video statement at the time on the band's official web site. "I have some pretty heavy news ... I actually have a form of cancer."
Yauch co-founded the group with friends Michael (Mike D) Diamond and Adam (Ad-Rock) Horovitz in 1979 as a punk band, before transitioning into rap in the mid-80s.
Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported Yauch's passing, and gossip site TMZ confirmed the news shortly afterwards.
Yauch is survived by a wife and daughter.

Just heard about this on the way home. They are having tributes on Sirius on the alt rock, 90's grunge, punk and old school hip-hop stations. That says something right there. And for 30 years no less. RIP MCA

I find The Beastie Boys to be super annoying. Screaming lyrics in an aggravatingly whiney tone of voice =/= music.

I hate to say it, but any time I hear more than 2 Stones songs on the radio in a row, I wonder if Keef has finally found the dose that pushes him over the line.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

For a long time it was my plan to shoot H the day Keef dies...but 15 years after that plan was hatched my desire to get on that particular horse has severely waned.
