VEEP

Post by nafod »

On HBO. Watched it twice. Very fast paced, while I thought it was funny the first time through I was also a little bit meh. Not sure why, maybe because it was so fast paced, I felt like I had to pay attention too much. But watching it the second time, you can chill back and just enjoy, and knowing what happens at the end of the episode made the beginning even funnier. Julia Louis Dreyfuss is awesome as the Veep. Perfect. The writing is dense, definitely bears repeat enjoyment. Good shit.

Hoisted by his own retard. Such a great line in context with that episode.

Baff, so you're giving two thumbs in? I'm willing to give it a try since you hit me with Homeland. Hey, when's that shit starting again?

Two thumbs all the way past the knuckle my friend.

Homeland... Dunno. Saw a preview when I was watching borgias last week, but I forgot the date. Around the same time as boardwalk I think. So, late summer?

I can't wait for those two to start again. I'm like a pimply faced nerd teenager waiting for a new Spiderman comic to come out.

Seriously, all these other shows are like methadone for a heroine addict. It's really just a way to keep me from twitching til homeland and boardwalk come back.

I'm real close to starting Mad Men from day 1. Worth ordering on Netflix or wherever? Or can I pick it up right now?

No don't jump in...way way too much back story. I highly recommend starting from the beginning. Since you're a youngster it might not effect you as much as it does me but being a child of the 60's I am amazed at their ability to get it all right...at least in my eyes.

If you haven't talked to anyone about this show, they actually weave in real products. Last season, season four they take a meeting with Honda...the time is about 64-65. One of the principals of the firm Roger Sterling...how cool a name is that?...is a former Navy destroyer captain. And he isn't fucking cool with it at all. I don't want to give anything else away but there's a scene where he's in his office where he says just one sentence about humanity and forgiveness that was just about the most powerful sentence I've ever heard on tv. It's an absolutely beautiful show.

I'm psyched reading this. I've got a degree in history (as useless as you'd imagine and concentrating in a completely different era, but still...), but I love that period from say, 1950-1975 or so.

Work? Business? It can wait.

That's a crazy generation our "greatest." No argument from me on that title but also and incredibly stoic, secretive, conflicted generation as well. Be prepared to love a whole bunch of fucked up people especially Don Draper...I know, another cool name.

So maybe you'll think this is funny maybe not. So I think it might have been the second season and Don is in one of those beatnik clubs with the small tables with this artist chick that does some work for their firm and of course he's banging on the side. Someone's reciting poetry and Don is taking it all in, in a bemused sort of way...a waitress sits down a bottle of beer. AH HA FUCKER! I'm gonna bust this sham wide open...no way that's not a bottle of Coors or Bud Light or some such shit...no way they can get every detail right cuz I'm looking. I've got the giant 1080p shit going so I freeze that fucking thing and start looking and bam! it's a bottle of Schlitz!

Authentic as a motherfucker.

My Dad told me a couple times how they used to pound back Schlitz when he was in school still.

They reintroduced the 1960s formula Schlitz about 3 years ago.

So the bottle you saw wasn't an authentic bottle from the 19-whenevers. It was fucking 21st century Schlitz!
