MILWAUKEE (AP) - One of life's simple pleasures just got a little sweeter. After years of waffling research on coffee and health, even some fear that java might raise the risk of heart disease, a big study finds the opposite: Coffee drinkers are a little more likely to live longer. Regular or decaf doesn't matter.

No shit. Although I drink it because I like the taste, decaf coffee is as bad an idea as beer without alcohol.

Hey Darth, this is gonna sound cunty but there's something a little biochemically fucked up about french press style/boiled coffee prep. Now I can't speak too knowledgeably about this but there's an oil present called cafestol that can elevate LDL. A paper filter catches most of it. Only reason I mention it is I've got a buddy whose HDL/LDL/triglyceride numbers were completely fucked up. Doctor couldn't figure out what was up...they talked about diet and my buddy mentioned he'd drink a couple of the big french press stype pots a day. The doctor told him to stop and switch to drip style and within a short period of time his numbers were okay. Just FYI. I think if you smoke some weed thought it counteracts this problem.

This is the correct answer. All else is savagery.

I gave up coffee for a while earlier this week. You can all burn in hell.

I gave up coffee once. It was a disappointment. My life was no better so I went back
I also gave up beer (mostly)...It was a great improvement..this was even more disappointing.

The first few days were miserable. I need to get back to the point where it wakes me up. Hopefully a few more weeks will do the trick.

I did a week long ride through Baja, with no access to good coffee...after 3 days I was dipping Folgers Crystals like Copenhagen to stave off the headaches and silent screaming

Besides, the coffee news was broken to me by a colleague who was drinking some Starbucks concoction at the time - my response was pretty much what I posted.

My french press turns out good for me nearly 25% of the time - a huge gamble in the morning that I am unwilling to risk.DARTH wrote:French Press for the Win!

Or you can still use the press, just pour the coffee through a paper filter. Problem solved.Shapecharge wrote:Hey Darth, this is gonna sound cunty but there's something a little biochemically fucked up about french press style/boiled coffee prep. I did it at a time when I didn't have to deal with too many people for a few days. Headaches were a bitch for the first three days though. Now not a big deal.

Absolutely!Blaidd Drwg wrote:Coffee is serious biiizznnnnnnneesssss.
For those of you who agree, I've been roasting my own for about 6 months this way (see video). Since my popper was only $20, a pretty inexpensive way to go. Works great for smaller batches (about a half cup at a time), only takes about 5-10 minutes per batch (depending on roast level) and is better than any coffee you can buy due to freshness level. I usually roast enough for about 4 days, and roast while lifting, so no time lost. Several green coffee suppliers out there on the interwebs selling for ~$6/lb depending on bulk quantity purchased and origin. Great thing is that green coffee is good for about a year unroasted, so you really only need to buy about every 6 months to ensure freshness and spread any shipping out across a larger order. Keeps the corporate ass-wipes at Charbucks outta my press (shudder). I buy from Sweet Marias FWIW.
