Totally out of scale, the Enterprise is not that big, see Star Trek The Motion Picture for scale.

Now a Imperial Class Star Destroyer on the other hand?

A Star Destroyer is already being built. You don't think that the Pentagon really spends $5K for toilet seats and coffee makers, do you?

I sincerely hope that governments are already aware of an impending alien threat and are arming to prepare for it. The biggest motivation to develop sufficient technology to get us off this rock is the belief that some dirty greenskins out there have better territory and resources than we do; so we'll want to go take it from them.
