I'm still convinced that Conservapedia is a huge Onion-style in-joke that's so ridiculously over the top that it too easily passes for reality.

I love living in TX. Coming from WI, I can say the differences still shock me. Things that wouldnt dare say in fear of being cuffed by the PC police in WI, people throw around here like nothing. I still remember the first time I heard someone just throw out "retarded", this would not fly in WI. On top of that the person that said has a special needs child... but it was about the context the word was used in, not the word itself, if that makes sense.Gorbachev wrote:Information is shit. TX gets a bad rap for being socially backwards and overly conservative, but I can tell you it's lightyears ahead with regard to "groups getting along" and joking about their differences/stereotypes.
I hate Madison.

Fucking bunch of spoiled commie college kids, with save the world slogans who really are more concerned with getting drunk and acting PC enough to get in some fugly cint's pants. Fucking douchbags with UN and Planet Earth Flags but not the Stars and Stripes. If I was a teen living there I know who's house I would be robbing and I couod throw a beer bottle into a crowd and be fairly sure I'd hit a douchbag. Therefore no guilt.

People get along better when shit is in the open, when people can speak freely you better know what and who you are dealing with and make better judgements. PC people beleive in Utopia's for Queers. Never happen much like a Ultra Right Wing Theocracy, YOU CAN'T STOP ROCK AND ROLL!

Quit ragging on Madison you fucks. (not you, Baffled) Just cuz the the spoiled student crowd is all you see, don't mean the whole place is shit. I've had all kinds of fun in Madtown, and there are more regular joes there than popular perception would allow you to see. Also check out Ford's Gym if you are there and need a place to lift.
Nightman, people getting uptight about things like race jokes, misogynistic humor, etc. is a function of class and somewhat less so a function of geography. I can guarantee you that if you walk into any machine shop, paper mill or blue-collar bar, you're going to see an unironic re-enactment of that bit in Gran Torino where Walt tells the best racist joke ever to his buddies. This is more true the further north (and east towards Lake Michigan) you go.

Unfortunatly I was not around any regular, blue collar types.
Jon and his crew are nice people and I had a great time with them, even when Jon was giving me shit about supporting the Redskins and how many Native Americans were upset about the name. "Hey it's my team since I was 8 #1 and all I can say to your Native pals is losing wars has consequences. To the victors goes the spoils. Shit I always took it as a name of strength and respect towards Native American ferocity in battle. Damn Jon half the time I played Cowboy's and Indian's I was Soux Warrior with a gun." I could mock scalp my friends after I shot them.
They did have Al Gore's bullshit book in the reception room of MBG, but no one was an annoying liberal about shit and we tended to focus on our commonalities of Martial arts, Fitness, Kettlebells, Health and just getting along and having fun.
I have a few Liberal friends, my only rule is I wont associate with Commies or Nazis or radical muslems, batshit crazy Xtians. Anyone else gets a chance with me, I'll talk to anyone and am willing to talk about any subject.
I figured if I got out of Madison I would find people more in line with myself. Packers fans who hunt, fish and vote Republican most of the time. Known a good number of Wisconsinites and non of them were the Madison type.

F-MI, I grew up in a blue collar area, and had plenty of exposure to blue collar folks. With my family being in the building products industry and my me working on rough carpentry crews in the summer while in college, I was not sheltered from the lower crust. After college I worked and trained people in the most affluent zip code in the state. There was no difference in what could be said and was off limits and both voted the same way.DARTH wrote:Foul-Mouthed Ignoramus wrote:Quit ragging on Madison you fucks. It's a factor of where the line id drawn and then how far the people of the area are willing to let it be moved.
Odd the more people were fractured into groups and subgroups, the less they got a long and were willing to work with one another. Here, no one cares.

Re: IGx-apedia
I've heard the various hypotheses regarding light travelling within a medium that is "expanding" (for lack of a better term) with enough speed to theoretically make this true. Is that what you're referring to, or something similar?speed of light being constant. Debatable topics if you know what you are talking about
If not, I'd love to have some links to I can check them out. I don't see it as much of a "debate" as it is (up to our current date) unable to be tested in any reliable way, and the fact that (up to our current date) every experiment involving the speed of light has supported the Theory of Relativity, rather than counter it.
As far as QM is concerned, I think it's more about the search for the Unifying Theory more than anything really controversial.

Don't disagree and not life impacting now for most, but not questioning assumptions is the road to ignorance.

I know you and I are polar opposites when it comes to politics, so please don't take this as anything other than a genuine question:
I can understand when science has to be "Politically-Sensitive" in regards to some views typically appearing with Conservatives, ie Creationism and Intelligent Design because the implications lead directly to the fundamental tenets of several mass-Religions, but am still not sure why something like Relativity is appearing on a Conservative site discussing PC material?

Testi, it's "simple" logic:
IF: Speed of light is shown to NOT be a constant
THEN: Science is all fucked up
THEREFORE: The Earth was created 6000 years ago and Adam and Eve petted Triceratops
BTW, Back in my NASA dork days, I worked on a project with Virginia Tech to prove light was slowing down using a fuckload of fiber and a stopwatch.

Let me take this opportunity that state that anyone whose political theory would be undone if our models of theoretical physics changed is fucked up. This thread already is proving my point.

For the record, i think ID is just avoiding the subject, and Creationism is way too sure of itself, exactly mirroring the attitude of Darwinian Evolutionists. But none of that matters in areas where Science has very real questions of how things work. SR and QT have conflicts. They don't know how subatomic particles act for sure. While the speed of light changing has impact on Evolutionary Theory, it has more real impact today if they figure that out. Which the majority of the PC science community are not leaning towards figuring it out because the one implication i mentioned i snot worth all the other concepts it would yield. Keep reading this thread. While i am capable of a Genesis to Revelation debate which has little to with this subject, i would actually just like to know why Schrodinger's Theory does not completely square with SR and GR.
