Why do we not have a Mad Men thread?
The fifth season is about to finish up in three weeks. This has been an absolutely wonderful ride. A superbly written and acted series.

I need to get the DVDs for the first... 4 seasons.
Then I can hang out with the cool kids in this thread.

This is a kind of TV programme?

Baff, I'd like to hear your take on the show. One thing that is kinda interesting to me anyway is I don't think this show could be any better even if it were on Showtime or HBO and could get rowdy with the language and nudity/sex. The dialogue isn't so much about being clever or whitty--it's just thoughtfully good. There was a piece of dialogue between Jane (the big-titted redhead that is so sexy hott that it can't even be classified) and Don (who's so sexy hott that it can't even be classified) and they're talking about a guy sitting at the same bar they're sitting at who's eyeballing Jane. They're speculating whether he's married or not and Jane says something like, "I bet she's pretty and the only thing she's done wrong is be overly familiar."

I almost bought the first season on iTunes today, but realized that I think my cousin has them. Hopefully, this weekend I'll be able to ask her (really, they're her husband's I would guess) and I can catch up.
That line that you posted, Shape.... awesome. If the show is consistently like that then it will explain the boner I've got right now.

Darth that episode blew my fucking mind and I'm not high or drunk. This show continually amazes me in it's consistent fucking awesomeness. I knew Don would stand tall and say "no" to the other deal. Just how fucking fucked up was that? Can't stop thinking about it.

Well I'll just have a fucking conversation with myself over the last episode of Mad Men.
Shape: Hey dork, did you see that shit? Just when I think it can't get any better it does just that...it blew my fucking mind.
Cross-dressing Shape: I know! The sheer fucking irony of Lane trying to kill himself in a Jaguar that his wife bought with money they don't have and the piece of shit won't start.
Shape w/ cock out: Can you see what a tailspin this will most likely put Don in? Now that's two poor hapless fuckers that Don is directly responsible for causing to commit suicide.
Sexy intellectual Shape: WTF? Who's the other guy that killed himself?
Bong-hit Shape: Hey shitstick, I thought you were into this show. Remember in season 2 I think when his half brother or adopted brother...something like that, saw him in a magazine article and found him and Don totally rejected him and gave him money to leave and never contact him again? Yeah that guy.
Deadly Asassin Shape: All I know is there's gonna be a huge void in my already fucked up world when the season finale is done on Sunday and well, there's a lot of people that's gonna be sorry when I have more time on my hands. Serrriously.

That shit with Lane was heart breaking, because it was so fucking unnecessary.
After partners voted not to give themselves bonuses, if he had just gone to Don or Roger – not that prick Pete – and laid out the situation, and asked for an advance or a loan, they would have taken care of it. At a minimum he would have gotten the loan or advance, and he'd be back in control. Probably they would have just voted him this year's bonus, maybe with the understanding that he doesn't get one next year when the others do. And everything would have been fine.
They would have been gung ho about being able to take care of him in any case. But they had to be extra ready to do Lane a solid, after he kicked the shit out of Pete in that meeting! Amazing! Instead, shame.
I like that Joanie is a partner now.
That shot of Don at the end of the season finale, where the girl asks if he's alone and he looks up into the camera, that was awesome. Interview with the show's creator, who directed that episode, where he talks about that final shot:

Fabulous show. My wife and I discovered it just before the start of season two. I guess it was the Sunday before season 2 started, we were sitting around flipping channels, and AMC was running a marathon of season 1. We clicked into one episode about halfway thru, probably the 5th or 6th episode. We figured to catch just a little of it, until it got stupid. Six or seven hours later it's approaching midnight, and we were blown away. Mad Men became appointment viewing, and we picked up the boxed set of season 1 to find out what we'd missed.
