Goodbye Beantown...

Post by The Crawdaddy »

Officially left that hole in my rearview today. Won't miss much. Ok place to visit though.

Back to the DC area. Goal now is to not get pulled through the dirt and politics of this place too much.

As we discussed, never did tour there, but had to visit enough and negotiate with the bastards to have some unoriginal thoughts

1. If you want a friend in DC, get a dog.
2. There is no such thing as the reasonable man theory.
3. Find the GS 12-14 who knows where the bodies are buried and kiss their ass.
4. You have to be parochial, everybody else is looking out for their program, and so should you.
5. People who preserve resources provide resources to those who don't.
6. Always be able to defend your program. If somebody woke you up at 3am and asked you to defend your POM slides you should be able to do it. Easily.
7. What interests your boss should fascinate the hell out of you.
8. Flags are brilliant, but a mile wild and an inch deep on most issues. Speak to them in sound bites with 3-5 points on an issue. When they imitate you it is not flattery, it is survival.
9. Know exactly how much latitude you have, and never be afraid to call somebody's bluff to call your boss. See #7.
10. Steps of the DC process: Denial of problem. Personal attack on solution bearer. Endless briefs, contractor studies, and near mishap. Attempted theft of solution from bearer. Shooting of Wounded. Gaurded truce.

Good luck!

1. Done!
2 thru 10. Yup.

For someone that never did a tour here, you certainly has the knowledges.

Now off to paint the new place before the movers arrive Monday. Ugh.

how are the rules of survival in dc different from the rules of survival in any large organization, for or not-for profit, secular or religious?

Not even close to better. Fucking colder, darker, rainier and the a-holes are even more densely packed in. Liberals are like flies on a rotting corpse and the drivers are worse than NJ.

I lived at Hanscom AFB in Bedford for convenience (services) and commuted in using the Lincoln Lab shuttle.

Well shit, how the fuck do you know anything about Boston having never lived here? I'd tell you to have fun with the undesirables in DC, but your hick ass will probably live out in a Fairfax county subdivision.

Spent a lot of time there actually, as recommended by a personal friend.

We're living in Maryland actually, Coop. Thanks for the compliment about being a hick though.

Are you by a metro line or will you drive to work? I used the slug line to get to the puzzle palace from Virginia.

That guy was a cunt and a DEMOCRAT. But in Greater Communist Maryland he will be surrounded by Libs and brain dead fluffs, Hipster's and all kinds of Niggertry.

If Crawdaddy is white he just moved to where his kids are 2nd class citizens.

Driving. It's about a 20 min commute - we're close to work.

I'm pretty centrist in politics, so it's not basic liberal or conservative that tends to bug me, but the extreme end of either (which pretty much means I hate politics right now). But Boston is such a Hyooge concentration of academics that the libtards are out of hand.

I'll agree with your libtardery assessment. However youre trading overeducated white libtard for suck the govt teet black hood rat.
DC is a shithole whereas Boston is relatively segregated to the point that you have to go out of your way to find the rough areas. That said, since you won't actually be living in DC it doesnt really matter. Can't say much about MD because my experience stems from just a few visits to friends in hoco but I think you'll find it much more culturally and economically diverse than Bedford. There are both good and bad aspects of that change.

One area where I disagree with Pinky and Drath is that you probably made a better choice moving to MD (especially if it's not a long term PCS move)-- you'd be dealing with 60-90 minute commute both ways if you lived in close in NoVa. Virginia doesn't really begin until you get outside of DC metro anyway.

If you're a fan, MD is baseball heaven. Camden and Nats Park are two of the best modern parks in baseball, and there are a lot of minor league teams around.
