Will they ever leave Lance Armstrong alone?

Re: Will they ever leave Lance Armstrong alone?
I see Lance's shit going the way it did for Clemens. Fucked from the beginning, nobody giving a shit and wondering why our lawmakers care when we don't, then him getting off. Not before they wreck his finances and make him look like an even bigger dick than he already does.

Like giving out speeding tickets at the Indianapolis 500.
Fucking waste of time and resources. The only winners are the corrupt pols and beaurocrats that use this sort of shit to distract the gullible sheep that comprise a growing share of our population.

It will go all the way. But this time at least it's not congress wasting tax dollars. It's a private agency. So it's their problem.baffled wrote:I see Lance's shit going the way it did for Clemens. is this true?baffled wrote: nobody giving a shit.
here, among the dopers and derelicts, nobody gives a shit. but my sense is that a significant number people do care about "cheating." the cops just caught a guy at the tour and it's big news.
floyd mayweather gives a shit, insisting pacman be tested.
as i said earlier, i assume the anti-doping guys are going after lance because someone reliable spilled the beans. if all they've got it the same old stuff, then it's bad theatre.

I think they have Hincapie, which in terms of credibility is pretty huge. Landis and Hamilton were easily dismissed for douchey behavior but they said the same thing.
It's an interesting thing about caring...among those who really understand the sport, drugs are a sort of non issue, everyone accepts that it's an even playing field. There are still those that like to see the big names get caught but it's all part of the opera.
There is a large hunk of people who care quite a lot. Of the people really pushing the issue it's the same across sport, the casual fans and the also-rans. They whinge chronically with the same classic arguments people use to enact new laws.
It's not fair!
What about the Children?
This movement, sadly has a lot of traction and seeks to enforce a sort of self righteous victorian socialism on sport that cannot be achieved in the broader culture.

I think all pro athletes should be allowed to juice. But they can't. So fuck Armstrong.
If he did it and is caught doing it, he has to pay the piper like anyone else. Now it may be a witch hunt so long after the fact, and that is shitty, but they are going to do what they're gonna do.

Ok, I looked it up. Hincapie was LA's domestique. My french is horrible-- that translates to man-servant right?

But he didnt get caught. Accusations years after the fact is not getting caught. Given ample opportunity to catch him they failed.Jay wrote:I think all pro athletes should be allowed to juice. But they can't. So fuck Armstrong.

I know he didn't get caught perse but if people have evidence against him from then....rjudo wrote: But he didnt get caught. Accusations years after the fact is not getting caught. Given ample opportunity to catch him they failed.
Fair or unfair it's the way it is. Especially when it comes to the steroid issue.
Steve Howe can do 8 balls off a hookers ass and have 7 chances to redeem himself in MLB, but god forbid a man does a cycle and congress wants to get involved.
It's stupid but it's the way it is.

Re: Will they ever leave Lance Armstrong alone?
remember when the olympics was for amateurs? and we had all kinds of arguments about who was and was not an amateur. and the commie motherfucking eastern bloc "amateurs" were actually pros and kicked our asses and . . . goddammit . . . that was just not fair?Blaidd Drwg wrote:

remember the press "brothers," tamara and irina? they disappeared when gender testing was instituted. they should return their medals, don't you think?
it occurs to me that the conflict over drugs is a reprise of the now-forgotten conflict over amateurs.

Actually, the "what about the children" is a fair argument. Unless you're a "free market" spastic (and many of you are) who fails to see the coercive power of money in sport for deprived kids. The overall aim and effect of sport should be the betterment of mankind. Not the poisoning and fucking up of poor kids from Africa, Mikwakee or China who take shit that even fat American "fans" with gooey shit wouldn't touch. There's something morally repugnant about fat fuckers drinking buckets of soda screaming at juiced athletes performing superhuman feats on gear that is killing them.

Re: Will they ever leave Lance Armstrong alone?
You think Vinokourov is from a nice place? Ullrich? It's a poor sport for most competitors. Having a culture that basically pushes very young athletes - teens - to take serious shit, fucking warm blood transfusions that are totally unsafe, see them setting an alarm clock to wake up to do pull ups because their blood is thicker than fucking honey..... You can pretend that it's all wordly and you have an inside track and blah fucking blah. But your kids are very unlikely to see this shitty path as their only way out of shitsville. You read about Pantani's life as a pro and tell me the sport isn't rotten to the core, dangerous and in serious need of SOME fucking cleanup. Armstrong was a poor one-parent kid from Plano and got his rewards. He was talented and worked hard. But he's in it to his fucking neck and would pass a lie-detector he's so fucking convinced of his own righteousness.
Easier to dismiss the danger and the leading of kids into that shit by pretending to know it all, I guess. Nothing but the free market, right?

I think that during a period where other high level cyclists and even his teammates were caught, he wasn't. I also know that the burden of proof isn't on him.
I noticed you skipped the dom/sub aspect of his relationship with Hincapie. Why is that?
