This is a tangent and as an aside to the parenting comments, but one of the victims was a six year old girl. What kind of white people take their six year old daughter out to a midnight movie?

Come to think of it, the only Batman shows she watches are a Batman and Scooby-do cartoon DVD we have. Violent movies are on my TV often, but my kids don't get to watch Rambo cut down a bunch of slants with a .50 cal, much less at midnight.

There are a million and a half reasons not to like nor vote for Obama but he seems like a decent enough guy that you would probably like if you knew him in person. The same could be said for W, for the most part (a friend of mine who is as liberal as they come met W and said that he is fairly cool in a small group setting).

What's funny is that when some people on here are at all challenged, they revert to calling the other person a troll or calling them Rant. Fact is, you have a society where being allowed to have guns is seen as a fundamental right. Fine. The odd nutter abuses that right and shoots up schools and cinemas. So what would both act as a deterrent and a practical limit on the potential damage a nutter can do? Answer: having more well-adjusted, trained people carrying arms.

If you can ezplain to me why people availing of the right to carry arms would object to a minimum of training and carrying, please do so. If someone who chooses not to own guns can logically object, please do so. Think about that cinema if there were 100 armed "normal" people there? Think about Columbine if there were 100 armed normal people there. Pick any situation you like and having armed citizens there makes it safer and less likely that someone will start shooting.

Americans have long had this right, and it's one of the reason that we're having this conversation in English.

As amusing as the cartoonist thinks that is, the fact remains that in a society where the average gun owner owns 4 guns and About 45% of Americans own guns, having an explicit citizen-originated deterrent effect makes sense.
