Swimming laps is by far the most boring fitness activity I have ever done in my life. It is why I will never do a triathlon ever again. Fuck swimming laps.

It's funny, for a while years ago I did a ton of swimming. I found it a very pleasing departure from jiujitsu, which is hot, high pressure, high impact, constantly thinking how to get ahead, etc. Swimming on the other hand is low pressure, low impact, cool, you can let your mind wander, etc. I actually found it a relief.

I could see that working for your situation. Probably my mild ADD combined with the fact I don't like to have to constantly exert effort just to keep breathing.

I'm a fast swimmer, but distance just bugs me. I think I'd much prefer open water, but that's not worth the drive. I didn't really dig surfing much either, on a tangential note.

It's also brutal. I went to a high school with a strong swimming program, and not coincidentally kids on the school swim team were almost all in the local development racing club. So I knew a lot of swimmers.

Their training is grueling and seemingly never ending. Twice a day pool sessions being normal.

Shaf has said before that upon retirement most ex-swim racers have no idea how to scale a normal fitness regimen because their experience in the pool was endless marathon sessions.

With twenty years of perspective, among the high school friends I still know, most of them have had shoulder surgeries, and almost all of them are no less fat and out of shape as anyone else their age. None of them still train or work out.

I respect what they do but it's more fun watching table tennis
