State of the American Male: Data Point Aurora, CO
At least three of the 12 victims of the shooting died because they were physically protecting the women they came to the movie with.

You often hear people talking about so-called "pussified American males" so I post this in rebuttal. Heroic men all, so RIP.

I'd be careful with that one. The author of the piece, Hanna Rosin, also said, according to a comment in the comments section underneath the article:
She actually seems to be reversing the idea of male heroism in order to make another, derogatory, feminist inspired critique of their behavior. It is now a bad thing to protect women. It shows that women cannot protect themselves, and therefore it looks bad. Ergo, only the most primate-like animalistic male chauvinist would protect her girlfriend from a homicidal maniac. These men were anti-feminists and perhaps needed a course on Woman's Studies at Yale. Failing that, I have a book which they can read in the purgatory.

She's just pissed because her ironing board is broken. The man in her life will no doubt be generous enough to get her a new one and she'll be in a much better mood.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.

It's like that for me whenever radical feminists are speaking. And apparently typing, too.

Um... no. Not at all. The commenter is making up words to put in Rosin's mouth, based on a fairly weak misreading of Rosin. That you, and presumably a lot of other people, have latched on to. Which is fucked up.Yes, I'm drunk wrote:I'd be careful with that one. The author of the piece, Hanna Rosin, also said, according to a comment in the comments section underneath the article:

Rosin isn't a 'radical feminist,' folks.
Re: State of the American Male: Data Point Aurora, CO
I've heard some stories about women protecting and saving other women but no stories of women protecting men. And what about those new style below the knee short pants men have accepted. They have no fly hole!! WTF is that? We supposed to sit down to piss now? Let them win the battle of putting the toilet seat down? They gonna remove stand up urinals from public men's rooms?

With respect, she has written a book entitled The End of Men: And the Rise of Women. If she's not a radical feminist in your book, then you've set the bar pretty high for what one is.milosz wrote:Um... no. Not at all. We had a similar but lesser (not as many kills but used armor, multiple guns, tear gas, gas mask) shooting like this at the local bar all the chumps from my high school go to in my home town.
My boy Bret (featured prominently in that old drug thread) got shot in the shin running across the line of fire to save his girlfriend.

I've read the Atlantic story that was expanded into that book, which would have had to have changed a lot to be anti-male. You should probably delve deeper into what she's actually written rather than assume that because something is titled "the end of men" it's an Andrea Dworkin tract. She's rather neutral when it comes to gender, and rather concerned with the changing roles of men and challenges to them (lower college degree rates, higher unemployment, etc.) for a 'radical feminist.'Yes, I'm drunk wrote:With respect, she has written a book entitled The End of Men: And the Rise of Women. Where do you hang out, under a rock? All the men in 'merica(except me) are wearing them. Faggoty "shorts with baggy legs that hang below or at the knee. They have no fly hole. If you pull them down far enough to piss over the top of the waist band, invariably you'll piss on them so you have to pull them way down and sit down to avoid pissing on them. They had to have been designed by a hateful female.ButterCupPowerRanch wrote:You pull your dick out through the fly hole? I didn't know anyon actually did that.

John Blunk: Saved his girlfriend by throwing himself on top of her using his body as a shield.
Alex Teves: Pushed his girlfriend to the floor and was struck by a bullet in the process.

This 19-year-old also deserves credit for protecting a woman and her two children after the baby-dady (now fiance) dropped one of the kids and ran.
