The Oatmeal vs FunnyJunk - Great Success!

Post by Protobuilder »

If you are able to click links and read, you can read about this here: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk.

If not, I will type slowly and try to explain.

Oatmeal: funny, original stuff
FunnyJunk: funny stuff stolen and reposted from others or, as the guy that runs The Oatmeal outlines it:
Gather funny pictures from around the internet
Host them on FunnyJunk.com
Slather them in advertising
If someone claims copyright infringement, throw your hands up in the air and exclaim "It was our users who uploaded your photos! We had nothing to do with it! We're innocent!"
Cash six figure advertising checks from other artist's stolen material
Basically, The Oatmeal made fun of FunnyJunk, who then threatened to sue them for $20k. The response was that The Oatmeal would raise that amount of money from donations, take pictures of it, send the FunnyJunk attorney pictures of the money along with a comic strip of his mom having sex with a Kodiak Bear and then donate the entire amount to charity. It's a fairly good letter: http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk_letter

The result? $211k+ raised the donated to charity and.....

Wow! That's really funny. I'll be laughing uncontrollably all day.
Obama's narcissism and arrogance is only superseded by his naivete and stupidity.

I still don't get it. If he donated the money, why is it laying around on his apartment floor?

A Kodiak bear's head would be much bigger, proportionally. This story has a lot of holes.
