So I was reading last weeks issue of Sports Illustrated, the olympics issue, and there's a very interesting story about a wrestling/boxing school in a city in Chechnya (sorry, can't even come close to spelling the city's name) that is run by a couple of brothers that are former gold medalists. I doubt you've read it but I'm curious as to your take on Chechnya...what do they want? Is it just about self-determination and self-rule or is there something else the western world just doesn't get about this area? It bummed me out to read the article. It seems there's not much for a young man to do...crime/join the resistance movement or leave. Is there fear that an independent Chechnya will lead other areas to do something similar? If so, what is so wrong with that?

They always were bandits. It is just their style of life.
They lived in slave system when Russia come there (and live in slave system today).
BTW, Putin now best friend of Chechens :) really, they don't work, they don't serve in army, they live on Russian money :) Of course they were glad to show their dedication to Putin in Georgia (although i myself supported him that time).

You may think i am nationalist, or i say this because i am Russian, but this is historical facts. They never did anything except robbering and slave selling.

About independance... Dudaev wanted it, he must be hoped on American money. But Kadyrov don't want any independance. With independance they will be enforced to work, but they just can't do any work historically.

As for Putin, he in the stale position. Russian people against sending money to Chechnya, but he must send money or war will start again (chechens can not live on their own)...

In tsar's times all was easier. When Chechens kidnapped somebody to slavery or killed or robed somebody, general Egorov just executed their nearest settlement. So all robberies and kidnappings was stopped till 1917.

Most of people (and myself) dreaming about Russia getting ridd off them, i.e. give them independence and make strong borders.

You may not believe but when Stalin dislocated them, all other Caucasus's nations supported this :)
