It seems to me they should've stuck with the tried and true Pathfinder airbag deal. But what the fuck do I know?

A. This sucker weighs 1 ton
B. They're trying to land it inside a crater
C. I hope it goes well. JPL is the last bastion of greatness in that dying agency.

Good idea. That will wake up them Martians and maybe they'll say somethin'. What if they're niggers?

How much would it cost to land all the niggers on Mars.BucketHead wrote:Then Kaz will soon make one small step for humans, one giant leap for intergalactic gang rapeAndy78 wrote:Good idea. That will wake up them Martians and maybe they'll say somethin'. What if they're niggers?
Oh, and the soft landing doesn't matter...don't budget for that.

Tons of reasons.protobuilder wrote:why is this a bigger deal than Pathfinder?
Are you really asking because you cannot honestly figure it out? Or do you know better, but you're just doing your usual Proto deal?
I don't want to waste the typing for the latter.

all I know is, they sent a rover there awhile back
now they sent another one that is bigger
why is this accomplishment seen as a huge deal if we've already done it before, just with a smaller vehicle?

This vehicle is a ton, and the size of an SUV.why is this accomplishment seen as a huge deal if we've already done it before, just with a smaller vehicle?
It utilized new methods for successful landing; heat shield+drag chute+parachute+rocket-powered sky crane.
Many more tools for researching much more specific hypotheses.
Improved trajectory planning and targeting: they launched this thing and managed to get ~250m within their target LZ.
Better navigational systems, better comm, better imaging capabilities -it sent back high-res images after landing within ~30 seconds'ish.
The list goes on and on.

Dammit, it was the typical Proto deal the whole time.
