Re: Pinky's thoughts
Other than not cutting us in on his lucrative Greek Krispy Treat monopoly, Mario is an OK guy and a decent admin moderator.
Seriously, Shaf has this pegged. You should see what passes for moderator behavior on other forums. Mario is the Mother Theresa of moderators compared to the fascist moderators on other forums.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
This is a perfect opportunity to segue into a conversation about our deviant administrator Mario. Is he sexually ambiguous? Certainly. Has he possibly mutilated another person's reproductive organs? Of course. Is he uncircumcised? Naturally. Intellectually "challenged"? No doubt. Trustworthy? Yeah, right. Does he do a great job of taking care of this shithole? Unquestionably. Group hug for Mario errrbody!!!

Once again, other forums are not relevant. I have never seen another one that I would even consider supporting. I have supported this forum, but there is a recurring problem that I think should be fixed. Complaining about the problem hasn't helped, so I'm trying something else.I wrote:This is why I spoke up. If there were more widespread problems, I wouldn't have bothered to chime in. I would have quietly donated nothing, which is what I do for every other forum on the Internet.Grandpa's Spells wrote:That said, Mario seems all right apart from this one issue.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
The only recurring problem is Mario is human and fucks up every once in a while. Usually the fuck ups revolve around stupid KB forum requests.

I think Mario does a great job. I visit a lot of other forums and he is by far the most superior admin I have seen. I'm lying about visiting other forums but I still think he does a great job.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
Mario does great, pretty much stays in the background and doesn't give a fuck with the nonsense that goes on here. On occasion shit happens, it gets fixed. I've been to a few other forums over the years and have been banned by most. The ones that banned me were some limp wristed martial art sites so fuck em and their soccer moms and a couple of motorcycle racing sites. All the above have had admin and moderators with little mustaches under their noses and Stalin in their heart... This is for them

Not sure who Mario is or what he does but the latter two points are true for surely.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Mario's work is exemplary. Most admins are petty, small minded tyrants, myself included

Uhh, you all know that Mario has both male and female genitalia right? Try to find some compassion in your heart.

Judging by Mario's fundraising thread, the answer to that paper's question is "yes".Turdacious wrote:The problem explained in the title:

But free-riding doesn't explain my position in this thread. If I wanted to free-ride, I would have done so before now, and I wouldn't have drawn attention to what I was (or wasn't) doing.
My position is that an admin should not be the source of disruption on a forum. Since Mario doesn't necessarily agree with that position, I'm making my contributions contingent on his behavior as admin. When he stays in the background, as he usually does, I'll contribute. When he disrupts the forum by moving threads, creating ridiculous subforums, etc., I won't.

The money is not for me Pinky, is for the board I never censored a thread and never intervened for a member other than protecting over IRL stuff.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
That's why I've contributed regularly in the past, but you also seem to think it's OK for the admin to disrupt the forum to go along with another person's joke. As long as that's the case, my support will be conditional on your remaining invisible. No one should be posting to ask where their thread is because the admin moved things around on a whim.Dux wrote:I never censored a thread

The important thing is that Pinky will be bitching using bandwidth that he isn't paying for.Odds that Pinky will bitch for 12 weeks or less about Mario demonstrating a sense of humor
x 12 weeks
Mean 13 weeks
St Dev 1 week
Odds 15.866%

The important thing is that no complaints are ever listened to, unless they're asking Mario to create a new forum or subforum. Asking Mario not to fuck with the forum, which shouldn't be necessary in the first place, doesn't do anything. This is the only lever any of us have.Turdacious wrote:The important thing is that Pinky will be bitching using bandwidth that he isn't paying for.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
Maybe its time to make IGx a pay for play site then. It would provide for the board and a salary for Marios work. Ad space could always be sold too.

Fall Economics Electives:
ECON 410-- Occupy Economics
The economic benefits of taking advantage of a good or service without paying for it by couching it as a protest against an injustice that nobody else really gives a shit about. This course will discuss the economic decision making process and benefits of taking advantage of a public good as a way to garner attention.
Example-- unpaid forum moderator participates in forum activity and occasionally experiments with ways to improve forum activity and organization in a way that doesn't permanently damage or change the forum if the experiment doesn't work.

Re: Pinky's thoughts
Given the number of views we have from unregistered users, I wonder if it would be possible to have ads that are only visible if you aren't logged in. That would help pay the bills without affecting registered users.tough old man wrote:Maybe its time to make IGx a pay for play site then. It would provide for the board and a salary for Marios work. But that's not going to help immediately, and I feel bad about people donating twice. Making Mario wait until a few reluctant lurkers make up for my donation is one thing. Having another regular member make an extra donation is another.
If Mario assures me that he'll be the invisible admin that this place needs for the next year, I'll chip in.
