Not that the departed give one shit what I think, but it's entirely different to go somewhere private & off yourself than to let a loved one find your brains on the wall. In the home you have shared together.

When I was a bartender one of my patrons offed himself in his house, his daughter found him... Poor girl. I never understand suicide because the damage you leave behind is horrific

In university one of my friends came home to find his mom had hung herself from the chandelier in the dining room.

His mom and dad were splitting up, and the fact that his dad shacked up with the mistress less than a week later and displayed nearly zero sorrow over the event did as much or more damage to his psyche as finding his mom's corpse.

He got on with his life eventually, but had a few bad years after that.

It seemed like they had a great relationship, but I have often wondered in the last couple of years if it wasn't just a giant FU to her husband and things weren't as perfect as they seemed. Like you said, if she really just wanted to disappear she wouldn't have made it so traumatic for her husband.

2 people I have known for years committed suicide in about the last year. Both were outgoing. Never would have suspected they would have done it. They were the life of the party type of people.

^^I've seen this a lot in the ones I've known. I think it must be a coping mechanism of some sort. And one day, it just doesn't work anymore.

My friend texted his wife at work. Told her he loved her and he was sorry, and to call 911. At least he spared her having to find him.
He had been having trouble sleeping, and had taken 2 ambien the night before. I have a feeling that didn't really help.

Another guy I know hanged himself about six weeks ago. He lived alone and it was several days before he was found. He had recently become friends with my uncle, and they spoke just about every day. Needless to say, my uncle has been pretty fucked up by it.

I can't really add anything but an echo to what others have said: it's not your fault in any way; nothing you could have done would have changed the outcome.

Shock.sorrow anger. guilt. No matter the cause of death it's the same for the survivors. We can spot deadly intent but there's nothing anybody can do to stop it. The person is gone one way or another. Say goodbye and move on.
