News people get this shit--and worse--all the time. They used to read viewer mail in Dallas, and people were always criticizing their face, hair, teeth, clothes, etc. I'm not sure (nor do I care) whether this was bullying per se, but it was a bullshit, unnecessary comment. Just because something is true doesn't mean it needs to be said.

She went a bit overboard with her response, but she has the forum to do that. Never fuck with someone who has a public forum to flame you. If her response makes anybody think twice before hitting 'send' on some really nasty comment, then good for her.

The end result is that this guy will get lots of shit talked to him. Most people will call him an asshole to his face, but a few skinny women will want to blow him. Jennifer will ride this emotional wave and end up losing a lot of weight and looking good. She'll speak on women's issues for the next year or so and get her picture taken at lots of fancy parties. She will advocate for the acceptance of all body types but will leave her fat sisters behind.

At best her response will encourage people to send hate-mail more anonymously. Also, it demonstrates that nothing happens in Lacrosse, WI, that's actually newsworthy.
