There are plenty of redneck shit-holes in the US that have similar local laws.

lol @ this... Turd is right, the Star is a fucking awful rag with only a passing acquaintance with the truth.
We're a discerning bunch on IGX, but for some reason a few of you seem to buy into this idea that the UK is falling to Islam. I'll let you into a state secret; Muslims apply barely any meaningful influence outside the pages of the tabloids and right wing press. They are a very small percentage of the population, have no political party which bangs their drum for them, and fuck all influence in the police or armed forces. There's an awful lot of hyperbole and McCarthy style pant-shitting going on, but very little evidence to back it up.
That said, as much as I can see through the press and their scare mongering nonsense, I actually appreciate their value in ensuring we don't fall asleep and let extreme strains of the Islamic faith taking hold properly. All things considered, I'd sooner remain a powerless pleb at the mercy of the moneyed elite than chance my luck in a Muslim state.
The press are good at distracting the squeezed middle and working classes from asking more relevant questions about our country.
That's from a year ago. Last I checked the UK still exists. That kid is a punk convert trying to get even with Mommy and Daddy and he was arrested around the Olympics for making threats. Hardly a cell of Islamic criminal masterminds.
They'll take my booze when they're willing to tiptoe across the vomit and pry it from my cold unconscious fingers.

And what do we plan to do States-side if this happens?
You mean like the red dots here?
Heh. I remember being in one of those areas. You couldn't buy alcohol from the restaurants or grocery stores, but you could go to Adolph's (no shit) for the 'Black Bag Special.' You put your purchase in a black garbage bag, and had to pay double the normal price.

I went to grad school in a dry county (not listed on the map). Apparently a religious woman had left a huge amount of land to the university and her request was that no alcohol was consumed on it so they made the entire county dry. The community actually had two towns that overlapped - you can guess what the convenience stores in the neighboring city looked like.

I think jurisdictions like that are referred to as "moist", not "dry". You were visiting a libertarian paradise compared to some places.

Actually, I'm looking at it wrong. Alcohol sales were prohibited on Sunday, the only day the black bag special was in effect. It was common knowledge, so no doubt the cops knew about it and looked the other way for one reason or another.

My money is on Adolph and his kinfolk being the people who wrote the law.

The US will be unwavering in their defense of the right to drink what they want when they want, as long as it isn't in dry counties......or wet counties.....of have liquor stores open on Sundays.......ok, and or have booze available any place but the aforementioned stores that are forced to be closed 1/7 of each week......and, alright, ok, nobody under the age of 21 is allowed but if those radical Muslim invaders show up............they probably wouldn't feel compelled to change that much actually.
