you know i am not whingeing about fair play. i am saying the bike race becomes two races. to pretend otherwise is bullshit.
for "athlete" substitute "bicycle racer."
in your heart you know i am right. you just like to argue.

No. I know ina my heart that you are wrong. I understand that people feel deeply about the idea of fair play. I also know first hand that the concept is inapplicable to high levels of sport. This is purely intuitive in terms of bidness and mKing money but people go all starry eyed when it is a sport

http://veloptimum.net/velonouvelles/8/A ... mes18.htmlCycling aficionados call it the Lance Effect: Lance Armstrong’s unprecedented seven-win tear through the Tour de France sparked a surge of interest in bicycle racing in the U.S. — and a corresponding jump in high-end road bike purchases. Armstrong’s influence is credited with upping the popularity of bike commuting as an alternative to driving.
There you go. Now you can love him again.

Re: Suck it Lance
BIG LULZ that there isnt anyone clean enough to give the titles too!USADA also thinks the Tour titles should not be given to other riders who finished on the podium, such was the level of doping during Armstrong's era.
The agency said 20 of the 21 riders on the podium in the Tour from 1999 through 2005 have been ''directly tied to likely doping through admissions, sanctions, public investigations'' or other means. It added that of the 45 riders on the podium between 1996 and 2010, 36 were by cyclists ''similarly tainted by doping
Says a lot about the sport of cycling.

Killing cycling as a competitive sport is the real goal of the USADA, and the Tour is the biggest and best ambulance to chase.tough old man wrote:BIG LULZ that there isnt anyone clean enough to give the titles too!USADA also thinks the Tour titles should not be given to other riders who finished on the podium, such was the level of doping during Armstrong's era.

Re: Suck it Lance
On a tangent here, but one of my coworkers was a legit Ironman Triathlete (finished a couple, to include Hawaii a couple of years ago.) He was utterly dismissive of LA's claims of innocence but in no way an LA hater. I don't know if he supplemented or not and have no gut vibe on it. I just learned an hour ago that he died on Friday at 42 of cancer, leaving a young family behind. I had no clue he was ill.

OUCH...

http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/10/ ... cot_262683ROME (AFP) — With cycling still reeling from the fallout of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal, organizers of next year’s UCI World Road Championships in Florence, Italy, have unveiled an unlikely mascot — Pinocchio.
With the UCI under increasing scrutiny over its handling of the Armstrong Affair, and as riders from that era open up about their doping pasts, the choice of the wooden, fictional character whose nose lengthens when he lies is, from some perspectives, potentially ironic.
Race organizers, however, see otherwise.
“Ours is a Pinocchio connected to his origins, happy, athletic and attentive,” according to the official website of the 2013 world championships. “He is looking at the horizon, expressing an optimistic attitude versus the future. The expression of his face is smiling, happy, positive and at the same time astonished.”
Race organizers added, “Our Pinocchio is happy that his land, Tuscany, has been chosen to host the world championships of cycling. The outline is athletic and slim like a real rider.”

The thread bump reminded me to post a little more info that I learned about my coworker. I guess it was melanoma that killed him. It was in remission and came back hard and fast.
