This hurricane was a complete snoozer by the time it got to WNY. There aren't even any smallish tree branches on the ground, basement gets more water during the average summer thundershower.
Bread and circuses.

Re: A storm is coming!
Is the storm really that big of deal? Of course, the media invested in it and "End of Days" plays well so they are going to run with it but, come on, it's not even strong enough to be classified as a hurricane. On Facebook, for example, I have either seen pictures of sharks in the streets and the Statue of Liberty nearly being washed away, all of which are obviously fake, to terrifying pictures of.......a tree blown down?
This is as good as CNN has been able to get thus far: http://edition.cnn.com/2012/10/29/us/ga ... index.html.
You live near the water and you are going to be wet. However, anybody who has ever been in a real storm knows that people wouldn't be playing the streets and standing outside to take pictures if the proverbial shit was really hitting the proverbial fans.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/christopher ... -all-time/Sandy has killed at least 39 people across eight states, has left more than 8 million without power, and has absolutely crippled the mass transit system that the nation’s biggest city relies upon to function, with many subway tunnels flooded.
“The New York City subway system is 108 years old, but it has never faced a disaster as devastating as last night,” said Joe Lhota, chairman of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, this morning.
This super storm will certainly go down as one of the greatest ever to hit the United States, with damage amounts well in excess of Irene’s $10 billion hit in 2011. EQUECAT has estimated that the damage will be on the order of $20 billion, which would put it in the neighborhood of Hurricane Ike, which struck Texas in 2008. Insured losses will likely be more than $7 billion.
Depending on the cost of repairing New York’s subways, it’s possible that Sandy could edge out 1992′s Hurricane Andrew at around $30 billion. The hit from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 is estimated at $100 billion.
The death toll is actually higher than they state. Sandy is a Joe Biden certified Big Fucking Deal.

It was not dead at all. We did 650 covers for the day, which is pretty meh with a full staff, but we did it with a skeletal crew both on the floor and in the kitchen.DrDonkeyLove wrote:Is it dead or a party with all the bridge & tunnel crowd spending the night in the city? The Ginger Beard Man wrote:Got out last night no problem. Decided to show up at work today instead of hanging around home waiting for the lights to go out. I'm ona break, just had filet mignon a cheesecake and an espresso. The bridges and tunnels are all closed so the company is putting me up tonight at thw Waldorf Towers.
Suck it bitches
I'd say the bulk of the customers were coming from the hotels. A lot of stranded tourists and a few natives evacuated from low lying parts of the city.
It was all pretty smooth until the storm took one of the skylights off the roof, sending quite a bit of glass into the dining room. Fortunately, the bulk of the glass, including the largest, potentially deadly shards, landed on a large round table that hadn't been seated yet.
Also fortunate was the fact that I was walking back from the bar, as this happened in my station. A bunch of people decided to call it a night, but some of them were troopers, and stayed to eat after we relocated them.
Today we had people from all over the city with an even more skeletal crew than yesterday.
I mean, people from downtown walked two hours to wait up to three hours more for a table.
A few regulars and Russell Crowe got seated fairly quickly, but even they had to wait.
