Veteran day's Rant
Fuck you Applebees and Olive Garden for your free entree.
I do not want some stranger's thanks. What is this all of a sudden? The whole nation wakes up and realizes that its Veteran's Day.
For years, I would listen to the radio on Veteran's Day, to the Ronn Owens program on KGO. Just to make sure the cocksucker never fucking mentioned it. Stopped listening, so I bet he does a full hour tomorrow (fucking on the fucking Monday so all the public employees can stay home while I work).
To our Vets here. Hey, you did it, you know you did it, your family put up with all the shit you brought back home with you...............Hang it there, you die with effects of your war.
I said to my friends, when I got back from Nam, I never thought fighting for your country was optional.
That was 1969.
We are not some new special group of victims to pity. Most of us got on with our lives, the best we could.
I have to deal with the VA for some of physical shit of being wounded in Viet Nam.
Everybody has these hats. Army/Korea, Navy/Viet Nam, Marines?WWII, and the like.
Asked the guy do you have any hats that say Draftee/Viet Nam? He looked at me funny and wanted to know what branch I served with. Told him, that doesn't matter, I didn't have a choice. He said he'd check in to it for me.
Today, I break out my Viet Nam class of '68 t-shirt. Its an inside joke, I only get it, cuz it really means to my country, go fuck yourselves.

Question. Is this sentiment because you (Gary) were drafted, or because it should be considered mandatory for Americans to answer the call?Turdacious wrote:+1 Well said.tough old man wrote:=D> =D> =D> =D> =D>To our Vets here. Came home to baby-boomers claiming there would be no wars if nobody fought.
So, my point is still simple, I never thought fighting for my country would be optional.
Today, there is very little skin in the game. To Terry B's point, you know someone who knows someone who is a vet. And get extra likes.

Now I understand your point.Gary John wrote:Four of the five John boy's were in the military. Two drafted. My brother Ray was in Viet Nam in 65-66 as a marine. So, my family served.

As late as 1988 I was near the end of an hour and a half trip back from a friend's house with a date that I had
known since early childhood, but never dated until that year. Out of the freaking blue she asks me why I joined
the Marines right after high school.
Well "fuck me", but I kind of thought it was the right thing to do.
