Skyfall

Post by Grandpa's Spells »

Easy to see why it's so well-reviewed. I think the only people who dislike this will be folks who just don't like Bond films. Javier Bardem was the best Bond villain in a long time, maybe ever.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Skyfall was better than a Quantum of Solace, but not as good as Casino Royale.
Skyfall has some nice moments that pay homage to earlier Bond themes: the Walther PPK, the shaken Martini, the Aston Martin, the original theme music playing when Bond takes off in the Aston Martin.
The new Q is weak, the new M is strong. The new Moneypenny - meh.

Daniel Craig is an excellent Bond...in the running for Best Bond.

Daniel Craig's joke from Rolling Stone interview-
"What's the most disgusting thing you can think of?" He doesn't pause. His Liverpudlian accent jumps right to the punch line. "Shoving five oysters up your grandmother's cunt and sucking out six!"

I thought it was great, and was looking forward to Javier Bardem as the villain. Albert Finney was unrecognizable, but still great as the old Scot caretaker.

I'll have to see it. Strangely, the New Yorker panned the film as being too dark and thoughtful. Bond, they seemed to be saying, should be mindless fun.

I'll go against the grain.

7/10

Awesome introduction (the motorcycle chase in particular)

Beautiful locales (the casino in Macau, Shanghai)

Some hot women

But....barely any gadgets or sex scenes

And...man, the plot definitely devolved in the 3rd act. For being a genius, the head villain did not think some major things through.

Too much action, too little logic for me. And long.

Thank God for no gadgets. That shit belongs to the Roger Moore vs. Jaws era of Bond, and is best forgotten.

True, there were huge plot holes. For that reason alone, I rate Skyfall below Casino Royale. IMO, the action sequences in Casino were also better.

I thought this was a little tongue-in-cheek. The over complicated evil plot.

The poker scenes were impossibly retarded. Almost every line was opposite day.

All you over-analyzing dorks are just pricks--you know this, right?

It's a preposterous movie/premise to begin with and you want to fuck with Mr. Bond and how shit goes down. Personally I think shooting at a metal door from a foot away is a bit dangerous but Mr. Bond has special training and equipment so maybe that's cool. Quit this nonsense now and spend your time discussing those fucking teenage vampire movies.

Good flick. Must admit I was *not* expecting the sex scene between Bond and M.
