Oly Shoes..kickass deal
Post by Blaidd Drwg »
These run true to size for me. I have a wide forefoot. Love them, they have taken a feast of abuses
including:
box and stair jumping,
tire flips and atlas stones
weighted carries on occasion
squatting in all flavors
lunges/ step ups
overhead work
throwing drills on occasion.
They don't work with Pistols, the bent press or other olde timey mustache waxing....

They're horseshit. Do-win/ Pendlay/Risto are all fine for beginners, or people who don't want to lift seriously. They're better than nothing. The top of the line Adidas and Nike are all I can safely say are worth it.Drew0786 wrote:http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:16 ... sku=456300
Anybody have any experience with these?
Also, I haven't paid full price for them for years.

do-win and related marques margins here are killer: i've heard the shoes cost less than $5 a pair to produce.
adidas runs its own factory in china, presumably with more humane conditions. not sure what oversight nike has.

I've heard very good things about those PL Adidas. The sole may not work for freaky strong Ol guys but a bunch of the Icelandic PL'ers are using them as well as a couple folks at my gym and everyone really likes them...better than the full flight Oly version.

IMO the adidas power shoe is fine for squatting or curling in the squat rack but clunky and unresponsive for the quick lifts. but, there are some world class lifters wearing them, so it boils down to what works for the individual. they would be ok for kettlebell sport, too.
the new adipower, apart from the color, is the best weightlifting shoe adidas has made yet. if you are a certified couch or trainer of any kind, join the adidas instructors three stripe program, where the adipowers are only $129 + shipping. the program itself is free to join. (the adidas powerlifting shoe is only $59 there) Three of my guys recently got the adidas reds and really like them. One had ristos before and two had adidas.

The Ristos I own are hand-made in Ecuador by fairly paid workers. Have had them for 2.5 years and they are a quality product.FRKCTL wrote:pendlays are made by do-win as are rogues. do- win, according to a someone i know that has visited the factory, is a typical chinese sweat shop operation. he turned down the opportunity to have his own brand of shoes made by them for that reason.

They are still holding up quite well but I may consider buying a newer pair in the next couple months.

yes, ivan and gwen are ethical business people, which is why i wish i could recommend their product, but the shoes i've seen haven't held up well for the lifters in my gym who own them. the newer products seem to be less well made than the original products.kreator wrote:

I'm curious what the good looking oly shoes are like...Ristos do look like corrective orthopedic shoes but they all, esp. Nikes look horrible.Ed Zachary wrote:I want my shoes to be made my virgin children who are whipped with cat o nine tails.

I've had a pair for over a year and I use them for everything - squatting, benching, pressing, and deadlifting. I love 'em. At my most recent PL meet there were quite a few guys using them as well. That said, I've never done any olympic lifting, but for PL I think they're perfect. The heel is a little over a half an inch, which I think is a bit lower than standard oly shoes, and the sole is EVA foam but I'm 240lbs and squatting around 500 and I've never felt any compression at all. The soles are super grippy as well, you're anchored to the platform in those things.I dig big chicks wrote:Drew0786 wrote:http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:16 ... sku=456300
