Hector Camacho on life support

Sounds like they're gonna take him off life support.

Re: Hector Camacho on life support
Oh shit.
Hector “Macho” Camacho is on life support after being shot in the face and neck Tuesday near San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Yeah, not the best year for boxing.

The legends and stars have gone down one by one. Sugar, manny steward, tapia, camacho, basilio. Even if macho lives, they said they expect he'll be paralyzed

I was a cop in Harlem where he grew up. I never met Macho, but his mom never left the neighborhood and she was a sweetheart. Needless to say, The Macho Man was a hero in 'da hood and he did some good stuff at the Y on 114st back in the day as they had a notable boxing program.
Far from a perfect man, but I hope he pulls through.

Speaking of Tyson (sort of), Mitch "Blood" Green was another boxer local to where I was on patrol. Believe it or not, Mitch loved cops, even when we locked him up (really what was done was we declared him an emotionally disturbed person vs. arresting him via penal code)......Mitch was one big brother....I have big hands and his were almost twice mine.Blaidd Drwg wrote:And yet......Mike Tyson lives. I never met Tyson, but saw him grinding the shit out of the gears of a Ferrari on 39th and Lex one day. Anyone who can damage Mitch is a scary mofo in my book.

That fight happened outside of a joint called Dapper Dans.

Boom boom mancini: this is the Warren Zevon song.
If you don't recall, a fighter named Doo koo Kim gave Mancini a great fight and died in the effort. The fabled "death punch" is in the video.

People were brutal to Mancini after that fight. Terrible jokes and just nasty stuff. The ref committed suicide, along with Kim's mom iirc. Well, not together, but you know.
Big reason title fights are 12 rounds instead of 15 now.

Re: Hector Camacho on life support
Jay Morh had Ray Mancini on his podcast in the last month or so. It was fucking great. He walked Ray right up to the Kim fight and they talked about it and the aftermath. Gut wrenching.baffled wrote:There's a new book out on that fight.seeahill wrote:Boom boom mancini: this is the Warren Zevon song.

August 31 and it's the last one on the list so if you want to listen to it you'd better get your ass to iTunes or go to this link and get after it since I figure it'll be gone in a day or two..

Re: Hector Camacho on life support
Apparently his wake was a good time.
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/86 ... eports-sayHector "Macho" Camacho has proved to be as controversial after death as he was during his life.
Several fights broke out during the second day of the viewing of the slain fighter Tuesday, including a scratching match between his alleged girlfriend, another woman who says she's his longtime girlfriend and his sisters, according to local media reports in Puerto Rico.
"I am the actual girlfriend of Macho, and those who don't like it better not bring it," said Cynthia Castillo, who claimed to be Camacho's girlfriend at the time of his death, told ESPN Deportes. "They shouldn't be going after me. They should be thanking me for being with him at all times."
Castillo planted a kiss on the mouth of the slain boxer at the viewing and then walked to the area reserved for family, where she claimed her plate of food was upended. She got into an altercation with Gloria Fernandez, who claimed to have been Camacho's girlfriend for the past 25 years, as well as Camacho's sisters, Esther and Estrella.
"I went to get something to eat because Machito (Hector Camacho Jr.) told me to, and his ex-girlfriend (Fernandez) came up to me and told me that I had to leave," Castillo told ESPN Deportes, showing a fresh scratch across her clavicle. "I said no, so they threw my plate of food and attacked me, and I defended myself."
