Yep, allthough popular durring the time of the Republic, Gladitorial games were not nearly as popular as they were durring the Principate.

Don't forget "The Bread" part of the equasion.

TR bagging on Prize fighting is not exactly fair. Criminals flocked to it and controlled it, because prize fighting was ILLEGAL in most of the USA in TRs day and age.

I would submit, that it is worship of or preoccupation with Professional sports that is a sign of decadence. I find the average Americans obsession with Professional and College Football to be unhealthy in the extreme.

Teddy the man, is extremely interesting and had many admirable qualities. Teddy the politician, was a Grade A Facist in the Prussian Model and did immeasurable harm to our Republic.
