The Boys by Garth Ennis et al
Post by Shafpocalypse Now »
Another comic series.
The Boys are a CIA funded operation dedicated to keeping superheroes on the straight and narrow, since most of them are perverts, drug addicts, or consider normal humans a bit beneath them.
Really very good. Read the entire 72 comic series over about a day and a half. Worth it.

Ever read Ennis' Preacher? I've read the first book...I'll be reading the rest next as soon as I finish The Sandman.
The Boys is on my list as well.

Oh Noes....Don't do that....it would geek into a full couch thread. These segregated ones are edumacational for those of us on the periphery.Croatoa wrote:Should have a general comic book thread.

What we need is a separate forum for all things comic books. ](https://www.irongarmx.net/phpbbdev/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

I liked "The Boys" a lot, but "Preacher" is still his ultimate mainstream comics achievement.
Ennis really has the "down and dirty" vibe down pat. His "MAX" run on the Punisher (with a different artist for every 6 issues) was amazing. His 5 year "Hitman" series with Joel McCrea (mostly) combined big foot comedy, murder for hire, friendship, snark, and alcoholism in a way never equaled before or since. And his early stuff on "Hellblazer" (mostly with Dillon) made you look at magick in a whole new light.
Not everything he does is perfect, but he's like Willie Mays - he's so good, so often, so easily, that it's easy to overlook how good he really is.
