Happy Chanukah
A holiday that celebrates religious freedom won by a small band of Jews agains the mighty Greek/Syrian empire. In a radical break in history, this became ne of the founding principles of the United States - Congress shall make no law prohibiting the free expression of religion.

Re: Happy Chanukah
Lucky for you there's no War on Chanukah, like the War on Christmas that we all have to suffer.

I'm fairly certain that's not where it came from.Hebrew Hammer wrote:this became ne of the founding principles of the United States - Congress shall make no law prohibiting the free expression of religion.
But Happy Chanukah to you.
Re: Happy Chanukah
A peaceful Chanukah season to you.
edit: I was going to be snarky, but I'm just in a peaceful, holiday kind of mood. Even if I think HH is a creep.

Real question for HH. Just came back from my run - it was pouring rain out btw - and I saw 2 Orthodox Jews standing on a corner. They flagged me down and said "are you Jewish?" - to which I replied... no. And they said nevermind.
Thought it was kinda bizarre and wondered if it has to do with a Chanukah tradition and why they'd be in the rain.

Re: Happy Chanukah
To say full evening prayers, especially if one wants to say a prayer in memory of a family member who recently died, you need ten Jewish men at the prayer service. If you live in a neighborhood with a lot of Jews, they may have stepped out of a service to see if they could grab a tenth Jewish man for a few minutes to allow the prayer. If not, it may have been Marco n disguise hunting for his nightly beat down.kreator wrote:Real question for HH. Oy! I subletted a co-op for two years on 67th road off of Queens Blvd and my building was at least 90% Jew. BTW, not far from there is Ben's Best Jewish Deli....hands down the greatest Jewish deli in NYC, yet little known. Former mayor Ed Koch's favorite deli....you'd think he would know.kreator wrote:Makes sense, thanks. Jackson Heights to Forest Hills has got to be a 20 mile round trip run, no?

Nice. I've run by there a bunch of times but never been in; I'll have to check it out.
And no, Jackson Heights to Forest Hills is only about 2-3 miles away actually.
