More to do with a stern grandfather on both sides of the family who saw snow shovelling as both a critical household chore in a shitty climate like this, as well as manual labor being a barometer of your utility as a person. These things tend to get passed down.

I'll allow that there are circumstances under which a snoblower might be allowable:

1) You're infirm, either through age, illness or a combination of both.
2) You live in the countryside, your driveway is literally half a mile long, and you'd never get anything else done in winter.
3) Some combination of the two.

He has a plow service or a drive that is 10 feet long. I am with Shaf on this one.
