Calling this my 'go to' or 'every day' sauce sounds a little wrong, so I'll just call it my usual:

Why bars don't make this their rail pour is beyond me. Slightly cheaper than Beam and 10x the Bourbon.

:-k :-k :-k

Need to try that,Nappy. My trips downmarket have not been good to me. JD is my go to. I find Beam very disappointing.

Here's a stupid Rye I was gifted that is actually quite good.

I prefer Beam over JD. But I'll have to give Evan William's a try.

Evan Williams might have a wee too much bite for a lover of Beam, but an IGx'er should be able to overcome that with ease.

I don't mind JD at all, but for about half the price of JD, give me EW black label every time. EW Single Barrel is a very smooth Bourbon (much smoother than black label) and is a steal at around 22 bucks for a fifth!

I think EW is considered to be Kentucky's first Bourbon distillery.

EW Single Barrel is amazing EZ. You would like it.

I keep Bulleit Rye and/or JB Rye on hand for every day use. I haven't had EW in a while. Now I gotta get some for the holiday.

Yup, I would take the cheaper bottles of EW Single and/or Buffalo Trace all day long over many of the high-end Bourbons.

And I do rank EW Single over Buffalo Trace on most days. Buffalo Trace is 'same, but different' in booze speak!

Both belong on a drinking man's shelf from time to time.

Always willing to try something new, I had this last night:

Amrut, single malt whisky from India.

http://www.amrutwhisky.co.uk/

NOT Scotch, but remarkably good single malt from the subcontinent.

Surprisingly good, in fact. Oaky, with a strong smoky aftertaste. It was cask strength, 61.9% alcohol, so almost eye-watering while you drink it.

In blind-tasting you could probably fool your Scotch-loving friends into believing it's from a small boutique distillery in Speyside.

Nice!

In USD, what does one such bottle of hootch set a fellow back, Gorilla?

I have 4 of my consultants in India right now on vacation and at least one won't object to buying alcohol for his 'handler' (hey, their term, not mine).

Around fifty bucks, probably much cheaper if you buy it straight from the Clan Singh of Loch Bangalore.

I bought a bottle of EW for a grand total of $13.99 a couple of weeks ago. Have yet to dig into it. I agree that EW Single is excellent.

It's good, and the content is about 10%.
It's a really good imperial stout. But it hides the alcohol content and is so smooth that its easy to get hammered in a hurry. So go really slow even though it drinks really easy.
I actually think that Dale's is the best beer they make, even though their high end stuff gets the highest ratings. I'm flabbergasted that their expensive beers all get "exceptional" or "world class" ratings while Dale's gets "good". Dale's is just great, although if you like it, I'd try New Belgium's "Shift", which is also very, very good.

Dale's might be one of the best beers in the US.

We don't get new belgium here, unfortunately. How would you compare this to Storm King?

Never had Storm King. Its a lot like Old Rasputin, only its alcohol content is even higher and it sneaks up on you even faster.
Its a chocolaty, coffee-like stout typical of top-quality imperials.
I don't think it is worth the price, though ($15.99 for a four pack of 12 oz cans). Too many great beers can be had for less. Its one of the best of its style but still not worth the price.

What is this 'go really slow' concept of which you speak?

Guinness over Angry Orchard Crisp Apple. I have poured three of these perfectly in the last two hours; the name, "Bruised Apple," reeks of the suck, however.

Dale's Ale in a can is ridiculously good. I'd put it in contention with Sierra Nevada Pale for stand alone, head and shoulders better than its peers.

I don't know why you would do that?

I believe the Brits call it a Black Velvet. Guinness and Champaigne
as well.

Dale's Imperial Red is also top of the line.
