As I read in "God father" in America are different "families" of gangsters.
In Russia it is one "organization". Throughout whole ex-USSR. This is main difference.
Of course there are "independent" gangs, but most of them pay tributes to the One "organization".
So in Russia they are really dangerous, because they are everywhere.

After the break of the USSR there were something like 200 crime families in Moscow. Don't know about now, but arms and drugs can keep that ground fertile.

One of the articles on that gangster getting shot said it was a sign of respect in the way he was killed and that it had to be someone that was highly trained. Like ex armed forces or intelligence.

Nice to know they have a fall back plan in Russia.
