Don't worry about being a laughing stock-- unless you run into someone who has read one of your books.seeahill wrote: You want me to drive an obsolete car and be the laughing stock of Montana?

Re: Smart car negotiator guys, help...
Have you tried contacting your current lease provider and asking what it would take to extend the current lease another 5-6 months? That way you're not buying any of the first batch of vehicles, and you can be a little more choosy.
If you are able to wait a bit, you could get the upcoming 3.0L diesel which offers better mileage. Which engine are you looking at, the 3.6L or the 5.7?

Why not just go direct ly to chinkaland and buy one of their brand? They'll be more reliable than the American brands they build like the Grand Cherokee.seeahill wrote:I get it. I'm sure that our higher corporate tax rate has nothing to do with that.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Irrelevant. Counts towards Japan's GDP.seeahill wrote:The most "American" made car --- the one that uses the most domestically made components and is assembled in the US --- is...

J-cubed, after much gnashing of teeth, I was going to go with the 8. All my miles are hwy miles, so I might get 21 mph. Instead of 25 on the 6. Still, I never heard a man say, "gee, I wish I'd gotten the smaller engine."
Terry B., no, I need off-road capabilities....
Spells, that's the point....
Thanks all. I did extend my lease. And will wait, though my fall back was always the Subaru, and they are offering deals and .009% financing....

Correct, nothing. Sourcing parts and having labor done here saves Japanese companies $$$.Turdacious wrote:I'm sure that our higher corporate tax rate has nothing to do with that.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Irrelevant. Cost is one thing. Cost allocation for tax purposes and to deal with political pressure is another.Grandpa's Spells wrote:Correct, nothing. It doesn't really matter. I see, you can't go wrong with a bigger engine.seeahill wrote:J-cubed, after much gnashing of teeth, I was going to go with the 8. All my miles are hwy miles, so I might get 21 mph. Instead of 25 on the 6. Still, I never heard a man say, "gee, I wish I'd gotten the smaller engine."
That new 3.6 is Chrysler's new go to engine, they are putting it in everything. Last July, we replaced my wife's 2002 Dodge minivan (which had the 3.3 L engine and 4 speed auto) with a 2012 with their new 3.6L engine and it comes with a 6 speed auto. The new van has about 100 more HP than the one we replaced (and the old one never really felt underpowered, at least for her driving), and after getting used to the 6 speed, she really enjoys it.
We did get a hair over 25mpg driving from Michigan to Myrtle Beach last summer with the new van, with the whole family and suitcases packed inside.
Personally, I don't think you'll go wrong either way.
