Re: Savagely attacked by the Whole9 crowd on Facebook
Exactly two months into my "Rational, Controlled Paleo" experiment I abandoned ship in the name of pumpernickel bread, more energy and better deadlift sessions.
I don't get why people get so dogmatic, about food. I eat around 2,100 calories a day now, from animal protein and hearty bread and dairy, and veggies and I feel great and I can train hard at the gym and on the mat. I get lots of carbs from dark bread every day and not only have I not noticed ANY severe effects, I do better when I train.
I just don't get why people can't just "eat everything" in amounts appropriate to support their lifestyle and goals and feel good about that.
I didn't feel good at all on no-carb, or even some-carb, strict Paleo. And I was glad when I stopped doing it I'm favor of a more reasoned approach.

That's the rational thing to do for a lifter. So many people can't put in potatoes, yogurt, and hearty breads without also putting in cookies, ice cream etc.Dr. Agkistrodon wrote:Exactly two months into my "Rational, Controlled Paleo" experiment I abandoned ship in the name of pumpernickel bread, more energy and better deadlift sessions.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.

Yeah. I went a little batshit crazy with the food when I first started out... And it took me a little while to settle into something reasonable and rational.Grandpa's Spells wrote:That's the rational thing to do for a lifter. I don't eat cookies or ice cream every day, but it's not like I'm "giving up cookies and ice cream and junk food" and "depriving myself." Never thought about it like that.
Beer on the other hand... I don't drink every day but when I do, LOL, I tend to go nuts. I'm working on that, but not for the sake of my waist, more for the sake of my liver and my lifting the morning after LOL
My girlfriend will make me cookies on occasion. Homemade. I'll eat them and enjoy them after dinner on a training day and I don't feel bad about it or anything.

Shaf, the typical expression is that "you poked the best."
In this case you poked the chinchillas. What did you honestly expect?

Shaf, sorry, not knowing the internet on a first name basis, I didn't quite get the context.Shafpocalypse Now wrote:Thud. Haha. I can totally see where you get that
I have some pretty strong feelings about kids and food, as I'm sure most of us do, but we can save that for another time.
Carry on.

I'd never heard of Mercola before. Jesus fuck.
"Ideally, you'll want to eat your eggs raw, or as close to raw as possible, such as soft-boiled or poached. I currently have four raw egg yolks nearly every morning over a bed of dehydrated vegetable pulp left over from my juicing, along with some red onions and a whole avocado. I discard the egg whites as I struggle with kidney damage; a result of having my mercury filling removed improperly, so I must limit my protein intake and in my view, the egg yolks are exponentially superior to the whites. If you chose to use egg whites, please don't eat them raw unless you also consume the egg yolks, otherwise you risk developing a biotin deficiency."

All the paleo fanatics will spout off about longevity and whatnot, and then probably talk on their cellphones while driving, likely drive fast like everyone else... Shit, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow. It's just food. Live a little, relax.

All this stuff is madness. Plain and simple. I don't have the time or the energy much-less the mental capacity to pick and choose and figure out what the best way is to eat wherever the fuck the best thing is. I eat steak, I cook it in a cast iron skillet, same with pork chops. I sautéed chicken breasts and chop em up and put em on pumpernickel bread with bacon, mustard and jalapeño jack cheese. I try to eat a big spinach salad every day, and I make protein shakes with Optimum Nutrition whey powder. And for some reason tonight I was fucking ravenous, so I ate an entire large pizza.
I feel good about the freedom I have in my "diet." And I think, all other things being equal, I stand a damn good chance at having better longevity than those wing nuts because I FLATLY REFUSE to stress out about what I eat.
