Mississippi Abolishes Slavery

Post by baffled »

Clerical error in '95.
A middle-aged recent immigrant from India recently set into motion a series of events that eventually led to Mississippi finally retifying the Constitutional amendment banning slavery. The rousing finale of the movie Lincoln served as inspiration. It sounds like a joke, but it's true. And even though it's been nearly 150 years since that fateful day in the Capitol in 1864, Mississippi's becoming the final state to officially ratify the Thirteenth Amendment serves as the final punctuation mark on a dark chapter in American history.

Actually, this slavery debacle didn't even make the local news down here. We're too busy trying to get prayer back into schools, and assign Social Security numbers to fetuses.

Mississippi is an odd state...it is basically run by a cadre of retarded white Republicans whose power is being slowly taken away by a cadre of equally retarded black Democrats. This plays out on a daily basis here in the lovely Jackson metro area. The upside is that at least the retarded white Republicans are pro-business, and have a mission to make MS the most business friendly state in the union. This helps drive economic growth as businesses look to relocate here, and new small businesses spring up. The schwoogies will kill that once they take over since everything to them is about creating state government jobs for the endless line of Jackson State and Alcorn State graduates with masters degrees in sociology, and the need to fuel this by taxing the everloving shit out of everyone with two dimes to rub together.

Does this really impact anybody outside of Wal-Mart?
