Are there any regulations about this kind of thing?
Their work was classified through a number of hoops, and through their clearance they signed non-disclosure agreements that are legally binding.

An interesting side tidbit is that elected officials don't hold clearances granted by the government. By dint of their election, we Merkins have judged them worthy of access.
Don’t believe everything you think.

The shooter claims:
He was the second man in the stack.
It was just him and the point man that assaulted up to the third floor.
Even a basic infantry team wouldn't be so naive as to assault the third floor with just two men-no need rush this. Already plenty of time for the guys on floor 3 to prep.

The point man sees a guy stick his head out the door, engages.
Supposedly then the point man makes the women in the hallway the center of his attention-with an active shooter still to his front. Note that this is the only version of the story where there were women in the hallway.
Other versions have the lead guy engage then follow through toward the active shooter. Which he should. You never drop your attention from a known threat.

The shooter's version has him going in and shooting Bin Laden in the face. This makes no sense and, for ID purposes, is undesirable, even if you believe that they had no intention of extracting him whole.

Other things as well but not up for typing it all. It's less a matter of any one thing, that might be explained away, than a series of unlikely events and errors that in the end don't sum correctly.
