Oglethorpe University President Lawrence Schall doesn’t dodge the hard stuff. Proving it again today, he dons his legal robes — he is an attorney – and discusses the nature of the charges against former APS school chief Beverly Hall.

He is not the only one questioning the breadth of the criminal charges facing Hall and other educators as a result of a cheating scandal first exposed by an AJC investigation of test score disparities.

City of Atlanta schools has been a revolving door of utter incompetence bordering on racketeering for well over a decade now. From teachers falsifying test scores to shit like this, it's been big news here for a looonnnngg time.

City schools near me are run like that, by black 'educators' whom are drawing huge salaries and other benefits while teachers and kids are fucked.

Hall took nearly $600k in bonuses that were tied to raising test scores. She also has a nice clause in her contract that if the Board files charges to recover the money, they need to pay her attorney fees.

Crescendo charter schools in LA actually obtained test papers in advance and distributed them to teachers/students. The Director, I believe, was a white dude as were most of the students, as is common in charter schools. However, I believe that most of the recently high-profile cheating scandals have had black women principles or superintendents which is interesting.

Superintendent Arlene Ackerman oversaw a nice cheating scandal in Philadelphia that had teachers actually changing answers - they essentially taught an entire middle school to read in a year.



Elba Lopez boosted scores in her Bronx school enough to receive a nice bonus the year before she retired.



The testing vendor for DC public schools uncovered patterns of cheating. Their chancellor "looked into it" an found nothing.

An Ed.D is about the easiest Doctorate level degree that one can attain. I can't tell you how many brain dead teachers I know that can't find their car at Wal-Mart who have Masters and Specialist degrees. Hell, my wife's degree is in elementary education, and she ain't no fucking Einstein. I tell her all the time that the reason she didn't get paid shit is because she has a degree in how to make Black History month posters out of macaroni and glitter. If she wanted the big money she should have studied accounting, finance, engineering, computer science, etc., but that would have required cracking a textbook open that didn't have clown pictures on the front of it. Long way of saying that the entire industry is loaded with sub-par talents, and it's no coincidence that the upper echelons are often stacked with women who have taken the minority/gender based scholarship money train to leadership roles that they would have never attained in a business or technology field.

Beware of anyone with a BA...they skipped the classes that involved stats and calculus for a reason...it would have sounded the retard alarm.

I know it's pop-sci, but in Freakonomics, an interesting case was made for the decline in teaching quality in the US being correlated with an increased presence of women in more prestigious majors (law, medicine, finance, engineering) sometime during emancipation.

The talents go where the incentives are high. Sadly, in most countries, teaching doesn't offer high incentives.

A child's education can be likened to a triangle with one point being the school, the second point being the child's homelife, and the third point being the child itself. All three points are vital to a successful education, and the dysfunction of any of the three points can have serious effects. Honestly, a motivated student with supportive parents can overcome a shitty district. They can change locations, seek private education, choose home schooling, or just opt to go the extra mile in some other way.

What I observed during my wife's 13 years as a teacher was the endless line of tragedies that stem from a shitty homelife...bastard kid with a single mom, dad is in jail/grave or not involved at all, being raised by aunt or grandmother, etc. I have sat and watched millions of dollars pumped into distressed districts, transforming them into charter schools, etc, but it's like polishing the brass on the Titanic. I suspect this is what they were faced with in Atlanta, as predominately black districts have a high rate of the "shitty homelife" that I describe. If a non-disabled child can't read that's the fault of the parents, case closed, end of story, I have no fucking sympathy. My kids were reading a little before they ever went to school because of the simple fact that we bought them books from day one, and spent time reading to them on a frequent basis. We knew exactly where our kids were academically from the beginning because we were involved with helping with homework, talking to teachers, reinforcing expectations at home within the context of classroom behavior and making grades, etc. Ya know...THE SHIT THAT PARENTS SHOULD DO.

These black assholes that bring kids into the world today cannot be fucking bothered to raise their kids. You tell one of them "hey, your kid is in 5th grade and the fucker can't read" and they'll be all like "well, somebody shoulda TOLE me." No, you shoulda spent time reading with your goddamned kid and you would have known the fucker was functionally illiterate. Discipline is another issue. Teachers spend way too much time having to manage classroom behavior as opposed to teaching. In my day they just took your ass out in the hall and whipped your ass with a paddle and sent you right back into the classroom with your red eyes and bubbling snot nose. Not only did it straighten out your behavior, but the other kids sitting in class would hear the paddle shots echoing down the hallway and got a clear message that fuckery was not tolerated. Nowadays, the lefties have taken that option away because they think paddling turns kids into psychopaths. The truth is that we are actually born as psychopaths and conformity and good manners have to be beaten into us. We've lost that and we can never get it back. Also, in my observation, black parents are the worst at taking sides with their kid against the school...it's never the kids fault, always the teacher's fault, always the principle's fault, and every once in a while they'll pull out the "deez white teachers can't teach deez black kids...we need sum black teachers up in here."

So, yeah, basically I'm a broke record and I keep coming back to the dangers of niggerdom, but if it wasn't real I wouldn't see it everywhere that I go.

There was a time when teachers claimed that they were underpaid relative to their educational status.
The states are different in pay, partly due to various things like the relative clout of the teachers unions, and cost of living differences.

I can only be sure of Georgia "Educators", but they are no longer underpaid, relative to other Georgians with Bachelor degrees and they have one of the better pension plans.

When it really comes down to it, there is no demonstrated correlation between teacher pay and student performance, or between teacher education and student performance.

I think part of the problem with fixing the pay-and-prestige issue is that it takes so long to boil through the system. When you bump up the pay, I mean, I don't know that an incoming college freshman is going to immediately say, wait, teaching is now a prestige profession, I'll major in elementary education instead of shooting for an accounting degree. But if they do, you know, that's 4 years before they hit the classroom, probably a couple years before they're decent teachers, and it'll be a while before the dead wood gets out of the system, and education outcomes are slow to move, too, because you have so many years of education. And the way these dumbasses work, they'd fund it for five years and give up during the first budget crisis, meanwhile the union finds a way to shunt the money to more senior teachers.

How smart does someone have to be to teach 4th grade math or 10th grade English? It's about passion. Those that start with it and manage to keep it while dealing with fucked up people and in a stifling bureaucracy , can change lives. Those who like some subject or another and want a pretty good paying part time job are just bureaucrats killing time.

My wife was a preschool teacher and director for many years. Not particularly well educated and paid less than a hamburger flipper. Many times we've encountered people in public who came up to her gushing and/or crying because of something she did that made a lasting difference in their kid's lives.

Common sense, passion, compassion, and courage trump high end degrees when it comes to educating kids.

Most teachers,nowadays I seems, want the summer off

Historically, teaching is a housewife profession, and in many ways it remains that. A decent paying, respectable job for the average woman who feels the need to get out of the house and contribute something. A degree track for the pretty young girl from a well-to-do household whose real goal in life is to marry well and raise kids of her own. There are a few extraordinary ones (my wife was one of them), but in the main they don't tend to be anything above the mundane and ordinary.

Michigan teachers rank second in the nation in terms of salary when the cost-of-living is factored in, according to an analysis done by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

Maryland ranked No. 1; Illinois was No. 3 followed by New York and California.

The analysis of salaries comes after Michigan Superintendent of Education Mike Flanagan said he would like to see all full-time public schools teachers make $100,000 a year in salary, which he said would attract higher quality teachers.
