I'm very sorry to hear about that Ryan. We lost our girl (11 1/2 year old dachshund) last year. It still hurts.

GODDAMN. This is the first thread I've opened in maybe 2 years and it's about a GSH passing on??? I am so very sorry - they are my favorite dog ever. I have 2 and a Coonhound - Larry, Shemp and Mo.

My Shemp (4yo GSH) just had to have his front leg amputated on Fri. because of cancer. I'm a wreck and he's out chasing birds 24 hours after surgery. Horrible decision but he's around for as long as he'll be around and he's completely oblivious to the change in number of legs.

I've had GSH's forever now and it completely sucks when they go - but I'm sure he was lucky to have you as his friend and rest assured he had the most perfect life ever.

Yeah, mine tore his ACL in the winter and still wanted to go running around chasing things on only 3 legs. I hope yours are around for a long time chasing critters.

Shorthairs do inspire devotion.

I did an ACL repair to the bitch and the male took himself out for a walk and got hit. Most traumatic event of my life to that point. Had 10k in cash to pay for a lumber package for my remodel. We got him spinal surgery instead. Totally worth it, lived out as his days a fully functional rabbit killing machine. Remodel is still not done. Don't care.
