Live Below The Line is a public awareness and fundraising campaign to raise money for poverty fighting efforts in developing countries. The idea is that by eating for under $1.50 a day for five days, and donating additional money to the campaign, that awareness and $$$ will be raised for the cause. https://www.livebelowtheline.com/us?lang=en
A couple of thoughts:
1. You have to cook, and there is a lot of inexpensive nutritious food available. Most of the people I know who this would appeal to don't understand how to cook on a budget. Pretty good guide too (available here).
2. Poverty alleviation efforts in the developing world have largely been a massive failure for 50+ years, perpetuating and exacerbating the problem rather than alleviating it.
