Pets may help cut heart disease risk: American Heart Association

(Reuters) - Anyone wanting to live longer and cut their risk of suffering from heart disease might want to consider getting a pet.

The American Heart Association (AHA) issued a scientific statement on Thursday saying owning a pet may help to decrease a person's risk of suffering from heart disease and is linked with lower levels of obesity, blood pressure and cholesterol.

"Pet ownership, particularly dog ownership, is probably associated with a decreased risk of heart disease," Glenn N. Levine, a professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, said in a statement.

Owning a dog ensures that your risk of smelling bad and having pet hair on everything rises exponentially.

Fairly sure that isn't worth the trade off.

I wouldn't trade it for anything. Except for when I went to college, my mutt has been right by my side for the almost 15 years I've had him.

Still pretty spry and quick as shit, just sleeps a lot more.

My wonderdog is most awesome and at 15 next to a wife, two sons, and four grandkids, the most magnificent thing in my life.

It actually is not bad, until you know what the fuck you are eating and it just does not feel right. (Bar-B- Q at my old TKD instructors, no Kimchee though.

I did go without food for a couple of days once in 95.

I had no money, direct deposit fuck up and I was working an out of town job and it was a 4 day weekend so none of my crew was around to bum a few bucks from. There was jack shit in the apartment but a 6 pack of Coor's light (PUKE), 1 can of tuna and some instant coffee.

I just have a huge hang up about stealing and I did not want to get caught doing that out of state, I had already seen the Harrisberg, Pa jail when I would pick up our work release labourer.

I also will not ask strangers for money, even though I do sometimes give homeless people a few bucks.

I took a walk to get my mind off of shit.

I see this dog with no collar and I seriously thought about taking it back to the apartment, sticking my knife in it's brainstem and going Korean.

When I got up to it though, that thought gave me a feeling in my heart that was 10 times worse than the one in my belly.

Ended up playing fetch with it for a while, sat down and it sat down next to me like it was mine. We hung out for about an hour

Just as I was about to get up and take it with me, not to eat now but figured he was out, no tags and seemed a good dog so I was going to take it in. ( I still considered myself "Christian" back then so I did kind of see this as a sign.)

Right then a car pulled up and there was a family in it, the dog's family.
