Why don't you assholes just get some mutt from the pound?

Certainly Chinese folk. They're disgusting. They eat cat, and my dad's cousin blames them for bringing leprosy to Hawaii. They're also like the Jews of Asia. Not a lot going for them other than strength in numbers.Bob Wildes wrote:--------------------------------------------------------------------------baffled wrote:You ever eaten dog? I won't do it, but I've heard good things. Being 1/8 Japanese, I clearly hate Koreans with an unhealthy passion, and thus, won't eat their fucked up food.
I lived in Long Beach, California from July 1980-January 1982. I cannot remember exactly when,
but there was a big stink about some "Asians" eating peoples pet cats some time during that period.
It was duly reported in the Los Angeles Times.
+1 on FC's comment about the pound. If I ever get another dog, I'll probably go to the pound and get a rescue.

I have a rescued boxer sitting behind me right now. To be honest I don't know what she was rescued from because she was sweet and healthy when we got her. Our suspicion is that someone used her for breeding and she served her purpose so they dumped her. But, I got a pure bred dog of a breed I love for not much money and I guess we may have done some little bit of good in the process.Testiclaw wrote:This!Fat Cat wrote:Why don't you assholes just get some mutt from the pound?
Rescues are the best.
The point being that there are rescue groups for specific breeds and you can get lucky. The group we utilized had some odd characteristics but dog rescue people can be eccentric - so what. All's well that ends well.

We're kind of in the same boat: three of ours came from breeders, although two of those breeders are family, and the other four are rescues/shelter pups.
My absolute favorite is one of the shelter guys. The warmest temperament, very people-focused so he was extremely easy to train. He's an old man now, but he still has his oddities: he won't drink water inside or from a bowl/bucket, he has to drink it from a stream or one of the ponds. He travels very, very far into the woods to take dumps. He just disappears when he poops, it's really strange. The other dogs will shit just by the treeline, but he makes it an adventure for himself. We still don't know where he actually goes, but I have never seen the guy pop a squat with my own eyes.
It's uncanny, really.
Wife was digging out a bunch of rocks/dirt to put in the foundation for a bigger greenhouse and he just hung out with her the whole time. Found a pile of rocks to sit on (comfortable?) and napped:
Boy up the street randomly shows up and plays cars with Jay...Jay just kind of hangs out, heh:

God damn, I love that dog.

Dog #1: The Queen, a 10+ year old cocker spaniel abandoned at the vet by a puppy mill. Dropped around $1200 on her a few years ago when she came up with a wired eye disease. After seeing the look of relief on my wife and son's faces when we picked her up it was money well spent. I love her but she is a horrible dog. I'll never own another cocker.
Dog #2: My baby, a 5+ year old Cane Corso(Italian mastiff) best and smartest dog I've ever been around. When he dies I may not recover. I got him for a steal from a friend and I'll never attempt to replace him.
Dog #3: The psycho, a 3+ year old beagle/terrier mix that my wife and son rescued off the side of the highway. Extremely needy and neurotic but very loving.
I have plans to start a large dog rescue before I retire from my job if not sooner.
Damn I love my dogs.

I actually did look at the shelters and adoption facilities. Most of them link to petfinder.com.Fat Cat wrote:Why don't you assholes just get some mutt from the pound?
Couldn't find one I liked so I went to a breeder.

True. Plus dog breeding is a science by comparison.

Very cool. Anyone who abandons a dog like that deserves a trip to the Enemclaw horse ranch.Ed Zachary wrote:Dog #3: The psycho, a 3+ year old beagle/terrier mix that my wife and son rescued off the side of the highway.

The boxer is 8. My pom is 7. I won't get another Pom. I might not get another boxer, either, because when he goes it's going to hurt.

We adopted a little feral cat couple winters ago. She hunts all creatures on the property (seems to limit herself to anything less than 1.5 times her own size) She brings them back for the Old Dag....who eats the heads off them. Symbiosis.

Re: You like dags?
Boxers are fucking wonderful dogs. Best friend had one growing up, Petey (their Mom named it Petunia, but nobody would call it that). She was bright white and awesome. Nicest fucking dog in the world, best dog to play around with, etc.
When she passed the entire family (kids now moved out, etc.) swore off dogs because it hurt too much.

My In-Laws have two cats like that. Feral cats that kind of show up when it's cold for place to sleep. Food is always out for them, etc. Both really nice when you can touch them, it's weird, they will avoid people for weeks and then one day walk inside and hop on a lap.Blaidd Drwg wrote:Testiclaw wrote:Old dags are the best!

The only downside is, as you mentioned, dead things showing up on the porches and whenever they're on your belly getting some love they dig in with their damn claws.

3 cats.
My old queen got too old to really hunt this year, she got super fat after being fixed. She'll still get mice. My bad baby cat, who's 2 now, hunts rodents incessantly, except she likes to bring them inside. My boy cat is a decent hunter, but not like the girls.
Old momma cat used to be a force of rodent destruction
