Did you happen to hear how strong it was?
As long as everyone and thing is alright not much to worry about. The first few might seem a little nerve racking but after that you don't really notice them unless they're either hard hitting because you're in the epicenter or they're drawn out.
I've been thru 100's of them and if they're not above a 4 on the Richter scale I won't notice them.

That's good that it wasn't strong.
Yes it is very common for other cities to feel the same quake as you.

Yes, an 8.2 is a big one. Not surprised it was felt from a long ways away.
I was in the same type of one back in the early 90's. It actually threw me from one side of the bed to the other in one motion. Water came shooting out of the pool about four feet high and 25 feet across.

That'll get your attention.
Crusty, are you in California? I'm guessing either Loma Prieta or Northridge?
I was still in Texas for Loma Prieta, and my relatives all said it was pretty crazy.
After the first year or so of being out here, I don't really notice them anymore. Only one made me a little nervous, but no real shaking.

We had a handful of small ones here in gawd's real 'murica last year. Nice new experience. Nothing near an 8.2.

An 8.2 quake will make your butt pucker something severe.
I'm not sure the biggest I've been in, but nothing was scarier than a tornado in tiny coppell Texas ~23 years ago.
Coppell isn't so tiny now, from what I hear.
