Well what started as a conversation with me and another guy about buying a bike for a super-long haul to Alaska began with these two bikes...the new BMW R1200gs and the KTM 1190 Adventure R:
Has now devolved into me wanting this, the Triumph 675r:
I know right? Bikes are like bitches...they make me crazy and I want one of everything.
What happened to the 'Strada? Tat would work fine for the Alcan (it's not nearly as bad as it used to be). I do have reservations about chain drives on long hauls so would vote for the BMW if the idea is still to do the Alaska ride. The 675 is a great bike but for shits and giggles in the Triumph line, go with the Speed Triple. No Alcon, though.
Steve I've still got the Strada but was initially questioning it's ability to make the trip. I was just trying to point out, at least for me anyway, how easy it is to get blown off course when it comes to bikes. I was now thinking I'd keep the Duc and that it could make the trip and I'd try to make a case with the wife on how my life will forever be made better if I had that Daytona.
I totally get it. There's not a bike on the planet I haven't considered at one point, abandoned and come back to again as the holy grail of <fun, transport, cross country, track, motocross...> Your wife would be a fool not to buy into such ac carefully constructed argument.
My friend has the F800 BMW. He could easily have the 1200 but after riding both he said the 1200 was just a little too beefy for what he wanted to do with it. I've ridden it, and the 800 could definitely make the Alaska trip unless you were taking every article of clothing you own plus planned on killing a moose and packing it back out.
I sat on the new Daytona when I was out looking at Bonnies a couple weeks ago. That bike is rowdy, but I'd have a hard time on it for even the time it would take to get up to the mountains to really enjoy it. Just too aggressive for any riding I'd ever do around here.
I don't have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor's dog.
My #1 consideration would be how fast could I kill myself on it. I I can pull out of the dealership then accelerate straight to oblivion, that is my new bike
Then the Daytona is your bike. That thing will break every speed law in the nation in first gear, all in under 3 seconds.
If they had 911 on speed dial you'd be dead before the last digit was sounded.

I haven't ridden that Daytona yet but I'm throwing my shit in the car and riding it sometime this week. I rode a bike last week with a quickshifter and that fucking thing is like crack.

Try the HP4 while your out and report back. I can't imagine damn near 200hp in a bike that's still that agile.

What is that? I've wanted a Royal Enfield ever since they re-vamped their entire bike a couple years ago. 500cc single and 70+mpg would be nice around the city.

Alfred...I stand corrected. It is a jap domestic model with a sleeved down Savage motor. Called the Tempter. the one I posted is very subtle custom job.

The Thruxton is.
