What's the IGx take on Michael Savage?

Post by Shapecharge »

I've heard of him...ultra conservative, libertarian type and highly educated right? But is he on the squirrely end of the spectrum? Only reason I ask is on the way home last night I was flipping around on am radio and caught his show and he was talking about someone in the government/military needs to be held accountable for that helicopter crash in Afganistan back in August 2011 that killed a bunch of operators (38 dead, 25 operators 3 of which were Team 6 members) and that perhaps it was a "set up" to eliminate the Team 6 members. What the fuck is this all about? I thought he (Savage) was supposed to be a pretty logical guy but this conspiracy stuff sounds way crazy. Just curious.

I haven't listened to him in years. Last time I heard him,I was in college and was pretty sure he was missing a few spokes.

I used to listen to him some at night on the way home from class in grad school 10-12 years ago.

When he was "on", he was utterly captivating. Ironically, that was usually when he was talking about something other than politics. I seem to remember I liked best when he talked about a previous career as a researcher, if I remember correctly.

When he goes off the deep end though, he really goes off the deep end. It's almost like he's got a split personality.

I might be way off on Alex Jones, But he strikes me as being in his business strictly for the money.

My guess is he doesn't believe more than 5% of what he spouts. He is a shrewd, amoral businessman/

I'm with Freki here.

When he isn't talking about politics he's at his best. His stories about restaurants, hotels, growing up in NYC, etc...are wonderful. Skip the rest.

I'm honestly not sure about him. I think that he's a little more crazy like a fox than flat out crazy, but every once in a while... I'm afraid that he may need to be committed.

Thought he was over the top, but in the last 6 months the shenanigans of the left with respect to borders, language, and culture have proved him more accurate than not.

Two of my books are dedicated to guys on that accident. Savage needs to shut up. They left behind wives and kids. That is not what happened.

This is a case of "the enemy has a vote." Some truly great guys died. One of the widows gave me the band I wear on the wrist. Savage really needs to shut up.

Obama certainly is a worthy successor to George Bush...every program Bush pushed, Obama pushed better. The influence of lobbyists has skyrocketed and pretty much it's pay as you go for legislation the fucks the citizen and helps the corporation.

The school loan stuff is fucking insane when you start to read about it

Indeed. Cheney pushed the restore more power to the executive branch and Obama stepped up to the plate to abuse the hell out of that power.

Well Dan, we have to disagree. Not a huge fan of Savage but having lived and worked with many of those folks in the communities that were killed on Extortion 17 I can tell you what happened has them AND family members of those folks asking hard questions. Will not go into specifics but what happened that night was very nonstandard for those OPs. The last 6 months if anything has shown the leadership's disregard for privacy, supporting troops under fire, lack of a cogent security plan, and a stunning lack of ability to tell the truth.

Savage either keeps his readers with this and other stuff or he doesn't. i am willing to give him some slack but also little airplay.

Does shit happen in War? Yep. But ignoring every current Tactic, Technique and Procedure during an Op is strange. Or stupid. Or deliberate. Swapping out locals on the lift was unheard of and seriously flawed and doubtful the Americans onboard were told this or they might have aborted, according to those who do that for a living.

Some foil headgear stuff in here but scary for those who live and work in that world:

I didn't realize the entire aircraft was filled with Team 6 guys.

This happened nearly two years ago...any questions answered?

Great answer if you have you want to ignore the reality. But when you see they sent a single slick 47 in without CAS or other overhead support something isn't right. Swapping out the locals as they were walking to the bird? Not ok in any way. i have to limit what i say here about particulars but this was a suicide mission one way or the other.

The Mission Commander in the helo, not to mention the Plane Commander, had the authority to say "no". I know for a fact they don't always use MH-47s. Are folks trying to hide something? Hell yes. These folks hide *everything*. If there was a FDR, it'd contain TTP info. No way that's going public. Etc.

This makes a lot more sense to me
  • All aboard Extortion 17 are Heroes, period.
    38 people lost their lives
30 American Warfighters and one Military Working Dog died doing something they loved, and they knew the risks. In hindsight, all would likely board that helo again.
    8 Afghans
Military Air Assets are always scarce. Sometimes you have to go with what you have, and it’s usually the Mission Commander’s call.
AQ and the Taliban have become experts at downing military choppers with RPGs. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen it happen.
This mission is no different than hundreds of other missions that went with the assets that were available, and a “just get it done” attitude.
The Chinook is commonly used platform, it’s twin rotors make it extremely nimble and it’s hold a large payload.
The U.S. Government is terrible at answering direct questions and supporting families after-the-fact. Hopefully, this will get better.
    All were Heroes.

While your quote is true your premise of Ops normal is far far from the same. Can't say much more but what they did was not the way things are done or even close. At a minimum somebody signed off on them doing things a couple standard deviations from the norm.
