I went to a nice restaurant/bar in Doylestown, PA with a black friend who also happened to be a CAPT in the Navy Reserve and the chief test pilot for Grumman Aerospace in his day job. This was in year 1999-2000, it was east of Main Street, kind of on an alley if I recollect correctly. Google-mapping it, the only thing that seems close is Bobby Simone's, but that doesn't ring a bell. Change of ownership? If I saw it, I'd recognize it.

Change of ownership. Back then it was T. Roosevelts, or something. If we're done trashing Zimmerman as a fat beaner cop-wannabe, let's stop deepthroating & ball cupping Trayvon:
Trayvon could very well have been casing some homes on the way home from the 7-11. It's pretty clear that he'd pulled a burglary or two. And was on the wrong track in life.
BY FRANCES ROBLES

SANFORD -- As thousands of people gathered here to demand an arrest in the Trayvon Martin case, a more complicated portrait began to emerge of a teenager whose problems at school ranged from getting spotted defacing lockers to getting caught with a marijuana baggie and women’s jewelry.
The Miami Gardens teen who has become a national symbol of racial injustice was suspended three times, and had a spotty school record that his family’s attorneys say is irrelevant to the facts that led up to his being gunned down on Feb. 26.
In October, a school police investigator said he saw Trayvon on the school surveillance camera in an unauthorized area “hiding and being suspicious.” Then he said he saw Trayvon mark up a door with “W.T.F” — an acronym for “what the f---.” The officer said he found Trayvon the next day and went through his book bag in search of the graffiti marker.
Instead the officer reported he found women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that he described as a “burglary tool,” according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald. Word of the incident came as the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the boy was suspended in February for getting caught with an empty bag with traces of marijuana, which he called “irrelevant” and an attempt to demonize a victim.
Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.
Trayvon was asked if the jewelry belonged to his family or a girlfriend.
“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” he responded, according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.

This is literally old news.
One of the downsides of the Internet is that it allows like-minded people to form communities, and sometimes those communities are stupid.
Re: Reuters profile on Zimmerman and Sanford
Yet the "innocent young child Trayvon" broken record keeps getting played. Here & throughout the news.
It wasn't relevant during the trial. But it's perfectly fair game in a discussion when folks are moan & cry about this terrible Loss to Mankind.

If the idea is to compare past criminal histories, Zimmerman comes out bad on that.It wasn't relevant during the trial. But it's perfectly fair game in a discussion when folks are moan & cry about this terrible Loss to Mankind.
If the idea is that Martin may have been involved in some petty crap completely outside of the night in question, OK. But the folks pointing this out never seem to do so in the context of making an actual argument. It just seems like tarring.

Compare Z. shoving a cop in 2005 vs. Trayvon doing burglary four months before his death. IMO, Martin is the one who comes off bad.Wiki: In 2005, at the age of 21, Zimmerman was charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, after shoving an officer while a friend of Zimmerman's was being questioned about underage drinking. The charges were reduced, then dropped when Zimmerman entered a pre-trial diversion program. Also in 2005, Zimmerman's ex-fiancée filed a restraining order against him, alleging domestic violence. Zimmerman requested a reciprocal restraining order. Both orders were granted.[32][42] The incidents were raised by prosecutors at Zimmerman's initial bond hearing. The judge described the incidents as "run of the mill" and "somewhat mild" and rejected the prosecution's claim that the incidents demonstrated that Zimmerman was violent or a threat to the community
I don't think there are any Zimmerman Tweets or posts where he poses as a gangsta.
"Tarring." I'd say Zimmerman took about 99% of the tarring in the popular press.Grandpa's Spells wrote:If the idea is that Martin may have been involved in some petty crap completely outside of the night in question, OK. And that is my actual argument, now that the trial is over.

The best part of this whole Obama/Race thing is listening to the Southerners suffering from apoplexy while they're calling into CSPAN and the like, telling Obama to just, "Keep his mouth shut"
Sorry crackers, but there's a black man in the White House. Elected twice.
Bats, why would you make fun of my left hand? I use it to fist your mother. Would you deprive her of the only sexual pleasure she has had since she was gang raped by the coyotes who brought your family into the US?

Re: Reuters profile on Zimmerman and Sanford
A bit of an aside but, to the left leaners on the thread, especially those that decry Z's supposed profiling of a black man, why aren't you outraged at the blatant sexism extant when black *men* are profiled?
Most of my left leaning friends usually reply with the knee jerk argument that we all know that men are more violent than women. But apparently when we all know that black men are more violent than white men, that's racism. They get downright apoplectic when they learn that, as posted in another thread, that lesbian couples have as much domestic violence as heterosexual couples and that if a child has been physically abused it's probably mommy who did it. All sorts of unsupported socio-economic arguments ensue to apologize and explain away the behavior. Leaving one to the unavoidable conclusion that underpins so many left arguments-white men are responsible for their behavior if it's bad, the beneficiaries of unearned socio-economic advantage if it's good, while minorities and women have damn good reasons beyond their control for negative behavior and are to be exalted as representative of their group for anything good. Apparently, open mindedness means only challenging those stereotypes that you don't like. A left wing bigot is still a bigot.
To that end why is Obama still upheld as a black president despite his parentage while Z is still being upheld as white despite his parentage?
It amazes me how many people still hold on to the original media account as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth while dismissing the actual court proceedings and the supporting evidence. Again, under the rubric of open mindedness. For those who insist that Z disregarded police dispatch input and provoked a confrontation, here from no less an unassailable authority than the New Yorker, we have http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/c ... trial.html:

Again, under the rubric of open mindedness. For those who insist that Z disregarded police dispatch input and provoked a confrontation, here from no less an unassailable authority than the New Yorker, we have http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/c ... trial.html:
The dispatcher appears at first to be asking Zimmerman to keep an eye on the person. “Just let me know if this guy does anything else,” he says. A little later, Zimmerman says, “He’s running.” (Does the fact that Martin was running suggest that he was up to no good, or does it suggest that the young man was running away from Zimmerman?) The dispatcher asks, “He’s running? Which way is he running?” Again, this is an important point. It’s the dispatcher asking (for a second time) Zimmerman to watch the person.
At this point, Zimmerman follows Martin, eventually losing sight of him. The dispatcher asks, “Are you following him?” When Zimmerman answers, “Yeah,” the dispatcher says, “We don’t need you to do that.” Zimmerman responds, “O.K.” This is probably the best-known part of the exchange. The dispatcher says don’t follow him, one theory goes, Zimmerman does anyway, and that causes the fatal confrontation. But this view of the facts obscures the earlier part of the call—when the dispatcher appears to be asking Zimmerman to follow and report the person’s movements. The call ends when Zimmerman gives the dispatcher information about how the police should find him (Zimmerman, that is) in the complex. Zimmerman asks that the police call him upon their arrival so he can provide his location. Zimmerman ends the call at 7:13 P.M. The first police officer arrived on the scene at 7:17 P.M., by which time Trayvon Martin was already dead.

Confirmation bias. People made up their minds following initial media reports and then saw only reports that supported their position. People tend to follow media reports that tell them what they want to hear and confirm their beliefs over and over and over again. They disregarded factual information because they were unable to accept it, even if it reached them.Sua Sponte wrote:It amazes me how many people still hold on to the original media account as the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth while dismissing the actual court proceedings and the supporting evidence.
