I own some decent knives but because of carrying too much shit in my pockets, I almost always have one of these little guys with me. I also have a very tiny little LED light that's about the size of a quarter. I use it and the knives below very frequently.

Gerber Artifact: $7.14 on Amazon. I got mine at Gander Mountain. I use it more than anything I've ever owned. Super sharp replaceable razor blade. Fits nicely in hand. Only self defense use that I can see is holding in fist and perhaps creating some head cuts w/blade or pointy Phillips head. GREAT for prying open small things and the multiple things that come up where you could use a very pointy and sharp blade. Fits perfectly in that useless mini-pocket on the right side of your jeans.

Byrd by Spyderco. I guess this is their lower level line of knives. I recall Furman mentioning them in the past. I have something like what's shown below in all serrated that was $20-$25 on Amazon. Very handy little tool. Not awesome for self protection but better than nothing. It's small enough that it's reasonably comfortable carrying it attached to the waist band of my pants with the knife on the inside. At this price, losing it is no big deal.

If I'm going in heavy I carry a Benchmade ATS-34 which is an Emerson design along with a S&W 638.

My current EDC is something like this:

How are you liking the XE6?

I was looking at it as a possible edc multi tool and travel multitool as well.

Either that or the wave but I'm thinking the wave might be a bit too much. More along the lines of something I would keep in my car.

It's the ultimate pocket multitool. I quit carrying my Wave when I got the XE6. The only thing I don't like about is the lack of locking blades. But it's totally worth it.

But since you don't plan to EDC it, I would go for a full size multitool: Victorinox Swisstool, Leatherman Charge or SOG PowerAssist (best fucking pliers).

I keep a SOG Access Card 2.0 in my wallet. It's a nice knife in it's own right but being thin/small enough to keep in my wallet means it really is an EDC for me. Even on a relatively brain dead kind of day I always bring my wallet with me.

My latest regular knife is a Kershaw Leek with the Sandvik 1660CB Stainless-Steel/CPM-D2 Composite blade. It's pretty sweet. I like the Ken Onion knives and this is my 3rd one.

I carry purely for utility. I have no MA training and tend to believe the guys who say you're better off with nothing if you don't know what you're doing...

That knife is kitty whiskers. If your sitting with some people and pull it out to butter their toast they are going to laugh in your face.

If you are looking to carry flat tableware, the RADA is a nice choice.

But, really, the CUTCO table knife is the Rolls Royce of flatware.

I enthusiastically second this recommendation. I've never handled a folding knife that I'm more comfortable opening and closing with one hand than my Griptilian and Mini-Griptilian (both w/ thumb studs). The Axis lock is smooth, secure and easier to use than liner or frame locks.

My employer has a prohibition on anything other than an "ordinary pocketknife", so I carry the Mini-Grip daily. It's small enough to be comfortable in my pocket, but it fits my hand better than similarly sized knives. I only use the full-size Griptilian when I'm working in the yard.

I can show you how to felet a forearm with that scecond one. Give me about 10 minutes with a hammer and some concrete and I'll make it a better fighting knife.
