The San Leandro City Council approved flying the flag of the People’s Republic of China above City Hall next month, despite protests over the nation’s human rights record.

On Monday, the council voted 4-3 to fly the flag on October 1st, China’s National Day. The Chinese Consulate has said they might stop by to visit on that day.

Councilmember Benny Lee, who made the proposal, said flying the flag would help attract Chinese investors.

Of course, the protests are over the human rights record of China. A problem to be sure, but nobody's got a problem flying another country's flag over the city hall of an American City?

Fortunately, the US flag code has a provision for that.

When flown with the national banner of other countries, each flag must be displayed from a separate pole of the same height. Each flag should be the same size. They should be raised and lowered simultaneously. The flag of one nation may not be displayed above that of another nation in time of peace.

In your mind does this violate the US flag code? I don't have all the details but it doesn't seem to.

As much as this makes me want to puke, I beleive that localities have the right to do what they want as long as the Bill of Rights is not violated. Local and State are the only levels of Government where the Libs even have a case to make or have a right to peddle their shit.

If the flag of a communist nation flew over government property for a day and the flag did not receive any bullet holes or shit stains, it's a fucking Liberal pit. Being next to San Fran might make them look less.

Yeah, flying one country's flag here is bullshit, IMO.

Doing the whole nations without borders, flags in a series kind of thing is fine, but kowtowing to a bunch of chinks is un-good.

San Leandro isn't really that liberal. The farther east you tend to go, the more conservative you get. The town I grew up in was pretty conservative, but it also has an estimated median income of ~$120k.

edit: My old town is still just slightly democrat, but not exactly the lefties you'll find in Berkeley.

People throughout the country are going to be pissed at the flag flying about beautiful San Leandro.
